Chemical Equation Review
For each reaction write a BALANCED equation and give the type of reaction (single replacement, double replacement, synthesis,
decomposition, or combustion)
1.
Aluminum foil is placed in a solution of copper (II) chloride and produces copper and aluminum chloride.
2.
Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) is a common ingredient in antacid. It will combine with hydrochloric acid (hydrogen
chloride) in your stomach to form water and magnesium chloride.
3.
When water is added to calcium oxide, the resulting combination produces calcium hydroxide and heat.
4.
When an electric current is passed through an aqueous solution containing an electrolyte, the water molecule breaks apart in to
hydrogen and oxygen gas.
5.
Methane bubbles (CH4) are burned in the presence of oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water.
6.
Thermite is created when iron (III) oxide reacts with aluminum to form aluminum oxide and iron.
7.
Potassium Iodide is added to lead (II) nitrate to form lead (II) iodide and potassium nitrate.
8.
A catalysis is added to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) which will speed up the reaction resulting in water and oxygen gas.
9.
When steel wool (Fe) is burned in the presence of oxygen iron (III) oxide can be formed.
10. When sugar (C12H22O11) burned in the presence of oxygen carbon dioxide and water vapor are produced.
11. Magnesium chloride will react with a solid piece of sodium to produce sodium chloride and magnesium solid.
12. Tricarbon octahydride (C3H8) will burn in the presence of oxygen to produce carbon dioxide, water vapor and heat.
13. When a magnesium ribbon is dropped into a test tube of hydrochloric acid (hydrogen chloride) it will produce magnesium chloride
and hydrogen gas.
14. Copper reacts in a beaker of silver (I) nitrate to produce copper (II) nitrate and elemental silver.
15. Magnesium nitride and water will react to form ammonia (NH 3) and magnesium hydroxide.
16. Pure aluminum reacts with the oxygen in the air to make aluminum oxide; a dirty film found on your screen doors.
17. With energy input, hydrogen and oxygen will combine to make water.
