Literacy Numeracy – Mrs. Bryson and Mrs. MacKinnon`s setting class

Literacy
In term 4 we will be continuing to learn PrimED B spelling words and words from the 200
common words list. In writing the children will be revising all of the VCOP work learned so far
and will be encouraged to use interesting openers, connectives and exciting adjectives in all of
their written work. We will also be focussing on imaginative writing this term and the children
will be asked to bring in a special thing from home to write about!
Please continue to read your child’s home reader with him/her – the children are making good
progress with their comprehension! In reading this term we will be concentrating on our
predicting and summarising skills.
In grammar we will continue to work on simple proof reading in order to improve our
punctuation skills.
In French we will learn the numbers from 21-31 and the children will participate in related
number games. They will learn the months of the year in order and will be able to state “ My
birthday is in ...... “ in French.

This term we will be

Using Venn, Carroll and tree diagrams
Creating and identifying halves and quarters
Describing and locating quarters on a number line
Describing and recording tenths and locating them on a number line
Mrs MacKinnon’s Maths setting class (Mondays)
Last term the children carried on learning about money – continuing to correctly work out giving
the correct change from set amounts and guessing the likely cost of various items. They also
continued to learn about telling the time on analogue and digital clocks – in particular quarter
past and quarter to times. This term the children will be revising all the previous outcomes and
going on to learn about measurements in both length and weight – understanding the need for
using standard units. They will be estimating, measuring and comparing different quantities.
Health And Wellbeing
This term we will be practising a variety of sports activities in readiness for our Sports Day – eg.
Javelin, slalom runs, hockey dribbling etc.
Last term in Mrs MacKinnon’s (Mondays) P.E class, the children progressed through a series of
ball skill activities – rolling and stopping, throwing and catching, and bouncing and catching.
They then used these ball skills to play a variety of running, catching and throwing games.
This term the children will be learning parachute games.
Other areas of the Curriculum
Art - Using a range of media to represent objects and landscapes – if the
weather is good we will draw trees, plants etc. outside.
RME – Stories of Prophet Muhammed, pattern in Islamic art.
Social Studies – Continuing with our topic on transport which will end with
our visit to the transport museum on Wednesday 27th April.
