Team Atlantic, a trade mission to
four of the New England states, is
an initiative of the Conference of
Atlantic Premiers designed to
encourage companies to explore
new business opportunities offered
through exporting.
New England is a large, highly
competitive market with easy access
to all of the Atlantic provinces. There
are excellent transportation links
and few cultural differences. There
is a long history of trade
relationships between Atlantic
Canada and New England, but
what is unique about the Team
Atlantic initiative is the export
experiences of the participating
companies. While they all have
the products and the capacity to
participate in international markets,
most of the companies have not
yet embarked into the export arena.
This mission will focus on exploring
the potential, the opportunities and
the possible partnerships that could
be established between these two
coastal markets.

anada: A Valuable Trading Partner
New Englanders and Atlantic Canadians have enjoyed a very special
relationship for a long time. We understand one another. We respect one
another.
Not surprisingly, those close ties of friendship have also led to significant
links of commerce.
But as in any close relationship, there is always the danger that our
familiarity can breed complacency, that our proximity might make us
unappreciative, and that our success in the past might obscure the potential
for the future.
And potential there is! Because for all our trade and investment with one
another, we are still only scratching the surface of what could be.
The Honourable
Fred J. Mifflin
Minister of Veterans
Affairs and Secretary
of State (Atlantic
Canada Opportunities
Agency)
For our part, Canada’s federal and provincial governments are working
with Atlantic Canadian companies by encouraging them to export to their
closest neighbours and best customers.
We are serious about building an even stronger long-term relationship
with our friends and partners in New England.
We want you to know that Atlantic Canada is a superb place in which
to do business: our quality of life is high, our workplace is highly skilled,
our economy is strong and our books are balanced.
KPMG recently revealed the results of a study which compares the cost
of doing business in G -7 countries. Findings indicate that Atlantic Canada
is an investment location of choice. It is among the most cost-competitive
and industry-attractive in the world.
The Team Atlantic trade mission is a superb opportunity to forge a future
that benefits Atlantic Canadians and New Englanders alike; a future that
combines our history with our hopes and infuses our present with a
renewed sense of purpose.
