About the weapons and tactics used in the Battle of Hastings. To develop a chronological understanding of the events of the Battle of Hastings. How king Harold died. Be able to describe in detail the weapons and tactics used by different soldiers at the Battle of Hastings. Be able to Explain Harolds battle tactics. Be able to describe at least one reason why William won the Battle of Hastings. Be able to use evidence to support how Harold died. Week 1 Classwork Match of the day I will: Take part in a class vote on who should become king after the Battle of Hastings. Create my own match of the day cards and represent each soldier with a colour, job and rating. Play the game using the cards I have created. Homework Choose one type of soldier to do a mini fact file. What battles did they fight in? what armour? What was their fighting style? Week 2/3 Classwork Round 2‐ the Battle of Hastings – the morning I will: • • Develop a chronological understanding of the morning of the battle of Hastings. Enter into a debate as either a follower of Harold or William. Watch a film clip which show the movements of both sides. Complete a timeline showing the events of the battle of Hastings. Week 4 Classwork Round 2 – the Battle of Hastings – the afternoon. I will: Learn about the events of the battle of Hastings. Create an audio commentary on the battle of Hastings which will be at least 1 minute long. Self‐assess my own work and peer‐ assess my partner to see if they should be awarded good, better or best. Week 5 Classwork History Mystery. How did Harold die? I will: Investigate how King Harold died using a variety of sources. Write a report entitled ‘How Harold Died’. Peer asses my partners work commenting on one thing they have done well and set one target. Week 6 Classwork Test week I will: Complete a test with multiple choice and sentence questions based on my learning so far. These results will be used for my overall humanities result. Week 7 Classwork The conquest of England. I will: Understand the problems facing Williams when he becomes king of England. Read information on the Conquest of England. Find out about the Bayeux tapestry and its significance. Homework Choose 6 of the words from the key terms and using your dictionary or the internet write a definition for each. Repeat for week 3 with 6 different words. Homework Choose either Harold or Williams and make a list of their strengths and weaknesses. Give reasons why you think they should win. Homework Revise all the work so far for a test next week. Homework Research the features of a Norman castle. What does one look like? Draw a picture of the castle using pencil. Homework Create your own version of the Bayeux tapestry. It should be historically accurate. Work should be done on a worksheet.
