sustainability / [suh-stey-nuh-bil-i-tee] / noun :
1. the ability to be sustained, supported, upheld, or confirmed.
2. work global, act local.
Throughout history, human beings have used natural elements as
a point of reference. Tribes united around fire. Cities developed around
water. Having to conceive a meeting point, developing the theme of
sustainability, it seemed an obligation for us to work with nature.
Nomadic events like festivals, depend on external supplies concerning water. This project responds to the important absence of this element. Having as a given that August is the month with the highest precipitations in a year’s time at Oslo, the recuperation of raining water
becomes an intersing idea.
The appearance of this project is quite the standard of a water
tower, interpreted for its additional function as a meeting point. Raining water is reculted by a tissue, and brought down by a systeme of
four pipes, for a use of the festival or the individuals. The idea includes
mineral filters for a conversion to drinking water. The capacity of the
project permits, for a possible 100mm of raining water, an average
of 600 people taking their shower, 1.000 flashes of toilets or ideally
120.000 glasses of water.
This meeting point is an icon, an image recognizable by everyone
that stands out in the landscape. The materials used, respond to the
language of a festival (metalic structures and tissue roofings). Icon
and function co-exist harmonically, giving to the festival a new core,
a new point of reference where to unite.
