BackgroundinformationontheEastContraCostaCountyHabitatConservancy: Beginningin2002,ContraCostaCountyjoinedthecitiesofBrentwood,Clayton,OakleyandPittsburgto developtheEastContraCostaCountyHabitatConservationPlan/NaturalCommunityConservation Plan(HCP)thatgiveslocalcitiesandagenciescontroloverendangeredspeciespermittingintheir jurisdiction.Undertheplan,landownersanddevelopersfulfilltheirobligationsundertheEndangered SpeciesActbypayingafeeorprovidingtheirownconservationmeasuresdesignedtoprotectlisted speciesandtheirhabitat.Inexchange,landownerscanproceedwithotherwiselawfulactivitiesrelated tolanduseoreconomicdevelopment.TheCounty’sDepartmentofConservationandDevelopment staffstheEastContraCostaCountyHabitatConservancyandleadstheimplementationoftheHCP. www.cocohcp.org
