Mrs. Allan H. Toub 15 Crescent Avenue, Newark 12, New Jersey April 29, 1964 Dear sir, On behalf of my family and I am certain many other Americans, I should like to express our horror and indignation over the savage incident that has befallen “The Little Mermaid”. She represented much more than a statue; above all, she seemed to symbolize the quiet dignity, beauty, and honesty of your people. Although we have never had the pleasure of visiting Denmark, it has been one of our dreams ever since we can remember and we are looking forward to the time when we can visit and share our enthusiasm with our son, David Blair Toub, who is now three years old. David felt very sad when he saw the decapitated statue in the newspaper and on the television and requested that I take some of his pennies out of his bank and send them to Copenhagen so “the lady can get a new head”. In accordance with his wishes I am enclosing a dollar bill which is less bulky than one hundred pennies. I trust that when we do visit Copenhagen we will be greeted by “The Little Mermaid” as millions of other visitors have been. Yours in friendship, Mrs. Allan H. Toub
