The Grapes of Wrath
Photography Project
DUE: Monday, December 10, 2007
OVERVIEW:
In this project you will learn to analyze and
interpret photographs by thinking of them as the creations of different
photographers with different approaches. The collection of
photographs for this project is designed to provide vivid scenes of the
harshness of life in rural America during the Great Depression. With
these photographs and the text of The Grapes of Wrath you will
explore this aspect of social history in-depth by using photographs as
a starting point for research which can, in turn, give your research
topics a context and relevance that will make them less abstract and
more engaging.
DIRECTIONS:
 You will be given 15 photographs from the Library of Congress
America from the Great Depression to World War II: Black and
White Photographs from the FSA and OWI, ca. 1935-1945
collection. Each photograph corresponds with one of the
descriptive chapters from The Grapes of Wrath.
 After studying each photograph you must answer the
corresponding 10 questions about the photograph.
 You must copy and paste the picture and the chapter number at
the top of each page that contains the corresponding answers
to the 10 questions. (Number all answers.)
 All work must by typed. (Arial/12; double-spaced)
 THIS IS NOT A GROUP PROJECT!!!!!!!!! All work must be
done by YOU and YOU alone!
