RATHCORMAC.
Sub post, money-order, and telegraph office, I7j miles from Cork, and 4.J from
Fermoy (head office). Rathcormac is a pleasantly situated little town, near the Bride,
and- has Protestant and Catholic places of worship, session house, and constabulary
barracks. Near it are many pleasant country residences and well-planted demesnes. It
was formerly a market town and parliamentary borough—sending two members to the
Irish Parliament up to the Union. One of its last representatives was Curran, the distinguished orator, advocate, and patriot. The town belonged to a branch of the Barry
family, seated in that district for about 500 years ; David de Barry, of Rathcormac, sat in
the upper house, in a parliament held in 1302, 30th of Edward I. The former residence
of the De Barrys is in possession of W. A. Stawell-Riversdale. To the north of Rathcormac are the Nagle mountains, the last of which, to the east, is named Cairn- Ticrtia
—the Thane's heap ; said to take its name from the tharie or lord of this part of the
county holding judicial assemblies thereon. The principal landowner in Rathcormac is
W. A. S.^Riversdale. There is a tan yard and flour mill here, both of which are now idle

RINGASKIDDY.
Suh post-office, 9 miles from Cork (head office), 3 from Passage, and 2.%, from Queenstown. The steamers of the C. B. & P. Ry. call here, from Passage and Queenstown;
fares from Cork, single 1/4, 1/-, 8d., return 2/-, 1/6, 1/-. The pretty marine village of
Ringaskiddy—or Rinnaskiddy, the " Promontory of Skiddy," a family of Danish descent,
whose name often occurs in local history—lies opposite Monkstown, on the south side of
Cork harbour. This neighbourhood, including Ringaskiddy, Ballybricken, Fort Prospect, Currabinny, and Coolmore (which form a peninsula), were called in the old Irish
MSS. the Long-a-Gnugan— " t h e ship of Cogan." In the parish of Barnahely are the
