Glasgow’s Improvement Challenge 2015-20 – Supporting families to be better
able to support their child's learning and development - Progress noted –
Instruction to Executive Director of Education Services.

There was submitted a report by the Executive Director of Education Services
regarding supporting families to be better able to support their child's learning and
development as part of Glasgow’s Improvement Challenge (GIC), advising
(1)
that nurseries and primary schools involved in the Challenge had been
encouraged to develop family learning programmes and had been able to bid
for monies to support families in partnership projects, which promoted children
learning alongside their parents or carers;
(2)
of the schools involved in Families in Partnership projects;
(3)
that Glasgow Life would work with Education Services to develop family
learning;
(4)
that Education Services would be engaging with local third sector
organisations to develop family learning programmes delivered by them in
Glasgow primary schools; and
(5)
that a background paper on research to show the different elements of family
learning had been issued to all Heads of Service, as detailed in appendix 1 of
the report.
After consideration, the committee
(a)
noted the report; and
(b)
instructed the Executive Director of Education Services to provide information
to this committee on the subscription rates from parents and carers for the
programme.
