Word CH02 More Skills13.qxd CHAPTER 2 5/22/08 2:46 PM Page 1 Word More Skills 13 Format and Customize Lists 䉴 Numbered lists separated by other text can be formatted to display continuous numbering. 䉴 You can increase or decrease the indent of both bulleted and numbered lists, and you can display multiple levels in either type of list. To complete this document, you will need the following file: 䊏 w02_Description You will save your document as: 䊏 w02_Description_Your_Name 1. Start Word. Locate and open the file w02_Description. Save the file in your Word Chapter 2 folder as w02_Description_Your_Name and then add the file name to the footer. 2. In the top numbered list, select all six items. On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click the Numbering button arrow , and then click the style to the right of None—the standard numbering style 1., 2., 3. Use the same technique to format the numbered list at the bottom of Page 1. Notice that the numbering starts over at 1 for the bottom list. 3. Right-click the first item in the bottom list, and then from the shortcut menu, click Continue Numbering. Notice that the numbering in the bottom lists starts with 7, as shown in Figure 1. Notice that the numbered lists move to the left margin. Both lists are formatted at one time because you changed the numbering to Continuous. 5. In the Paragraph group, click the Increase Indent button two times, and notice that the numbered lists move to the right; the lists move together because of the continuous numbering. Click anywhere in the document to deselect the text, and then compare your document with Figure 2. Numbered lists indented to the right Figure 2 6. Scroll down to display the top of Page 2. Select all of the paragraphs on the page—including the bold paragraphs—and then in the Paragraph group, click the Bullets button . 7. At the top of Page 2, select all of the items from the paragraph that begins Keep an inventory to the paragraph that begins Compile and check. 8. In the Paragraph group, click the Increase Indent button . Notice that the selected bulleted points are indented further, and the bullet symbols change, indicating that these bullets are at a lower level than the bulleted points above and below them, as shown in Figure 3.
