MAPPING OF THE POTENTIAL OF MARINE CURRENT ENERGY IN SUNDA STRAIT TO SUPPORT STRATEGIC PLAN AREA IN SUNDA STRAIT Nama Mahasiswa : R I N A NRP : 2412201010 Pembimbing : Dr. Ridho Hantoro, S.T., M.T. ABSTRACT Indonesia is an archipelagic country that has many of renewable energy resources from ocean such as energy of marine currents/tidal stream in which the energy kinetic of marine current may be converted to electric power. The Indonesian government plan to build a bridge connected Java island and Sumatera Island in Sunda strait, an according document of MP3EI (the Master Plan for Acceleration and Expansion on Indonesia’s Economic Development) the zone of bridge infrastructure should be supplied by renewable energy from ocean. Based on this background, it is necessary to study how many potential mapping marine current energy in Sunda Strait. The method mapping of current energy potential using numerical ocean circulation currents MEC Ocean Model Program. This method can be useful in determining flow pattern,velocity distribution details and the candidate locations for the installation of power plants in ocean current. According to the simulation results with constant mesh 1000 m x 1000 m the point at x = 82000 [m] and y = 58000 [m] is obtained maximum current speed of spring tide = 2,157 [m/s], maximum current speed of neap tide = 0,85 [m/s], and average maximum speed of spring tide and neap tide = 1,536 [m/s]. The results of the constant mesh using a variable mesh be detailed in 1000 mx 100 m in fastest point location with the maximum speed current results obtained during spring tide = 2,504 m / s , the maximum speed during neap tide = 1,041 m/s and average maximum speed of spring tide and neap tide = 1,727 [m/s] . The potential power that can be generated under the feet of the Sunda Strait bridge of 3 MW for one tidal cycle and The possible power can be generated per year is amounted 424.56 MWh. This study is expected to provide information support infrastructure development plan that integrates the Sunda Strait region with the development of ocean current energy.
