The Gateway to the Red Bull Ring
The voestalpine wing combines state of the art architecture and the fascination of motor racing.

Inspired
The architecture of the voestalpine wing is based on
the rear wing of a racing car. Similar to its inspiration
model, immense forces act on the structure, for
example a wind load of 56 t. A total of around 900 t
of steel has been integrated in the building.

The voestalpine wing also serves as a media
center for Formula 1 racing, providing room for
500 media representatives. The race is broadcast to 185 countries throughout the world.

The rear wing of a racing car is an important element of the aerodynamic
system: it presses the vehicle down onto the road at the back with 1.6 t.
This enables shorter braking distances and much higher speeds in
curves. The driver is subjected to an acceleration force of up
1,6 t
to 6 G in the curves, almost twice as much as for an astronaut downforce
when a space shuttle is launched!
