Day) Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving Day) Friday, Nov. 29 (Day after ThanksgivingNo School) Monday, Dec. 2 (Flex Workday) Thursday, Dec. 19 th th 5 & 6 Grade Vocal, Band & Orchestra Concert 7:00 p.m. As the weather gets colder and families spend more time inside, it's a great time to reconnect with your child by grabbing a good book! Out of all the skills we teach at Clarendon Avenue School, reading is one of the most critical. To be successful in nearly any job, good reading skills are hugely important. Developing a child's reading ability can help foster strong critical thinking skills, a longer attention span, and a broader vocabulary. And even in this increasingly digital world, the ability to read and comprehend is a vital skill. The graphic below shows how reading just 20 minutes a day over the course of a school year can make a huge difference in a child's development over children who don't read. Those 20 minutes a night may seem like a lot, but it's a small investment towards your child's future. If you don't already take time to read with your child or children each night, please consider setting aside some time to create a new habit of reading in your household! "Children are made readers on the laps of their parents." -- Emilie Buchwald (with thanks to Mrs. Gebhard for the quote) Introducing a new way to communicate the great things our children do at Clarendon Avenue School: Twitter! Clarendon Avenue School now has a Twitter account and is actively "tweeting." You can find us on Twitter with the handle @MASDClarendon. Please follow us and share with other friends and family who are into social networking! Also, the Clarendon Avenue School PTG has started a Facebook page to share fundraising opportunities and reminders for things like Market Day pickup. If you are a part of the Facebook community, please consider "liking" their page, which can be found at www.facebook.com/clarendonptg. This year, we are offering scarves, ornaments, bracelets, magnets th th and more! Santa’s Corner will be held December 9 – 13 . Look for specific information on which day your child’s classroom will be allowed to purchase coming home soon. Way to go! We are currently visiting St. Louis, Missouri, home of the St. Louis Rams. In order to reach our goal of 9,744 miles by year’s end, 4,587 miles are still needed. Keep up the hard work and do not forget that exercising with a family member always counts double the miles. Miles can also be earned by making healthy food choices. One week without soda is worth 15 miles! Blank record forms are available on the gymnasium stage or by visiting the Movin’ Miles link on the Clarendon Physical Education website at http://www.masd.k12.wi.us/faculty/portztr/ Extra Curricular Activities Congratulations to the Clarendon Avenue School FIRST Lego League Teams.
