Ottawa Lansing, MI 48933 Facility Telephone #: (517) 580-3292 Capacity: 15 Program Type: CHILD CARE CENTER 1 II. Purpose of Addendum On 11/03/2016, Ms. Audrey Pallone, program director and licensee designee, submitted a modification request to lower the ages of children cared for in the preschool classroom. This resulted in the infant room being moved to a different space and the overall center capacity being increased from 14 to 15 children. III. IV. Methodology 11/03/2016 Modification request received 11/07/2016 Inspection completed on-site Description of Findings and Conclusions Little Scholars Preparatory School is located in a two-story converted home in downtown Lansing. The main level of the facility is approved for use. There are two rooms used for child care. The infant classroom was originally located in the southeast room in the facility and the preschool room was located on the west side of the building. Due to this modification, the infant room was relocated to the back half of the west side room and the toddler/preschool room was moved to the south side of the building. The following rooms are approved for use: The infant room is located in the back half of the west side room. The room is separated from the front half of this room by a double door. This room is 12.1 feet x 12.9 feet, providing a total of 156 square feet. Based on 50 square feet per child, this is enough space for a total room capacity of 3 infants. The preschool room consists of the two rooms on the south side of the building. The rooms are divided by a double door. When the doors are open, these two rooms function as one use space. The west side of the room is 13.1 feet x 12 feet, plus 9.6 feet x 3.3 feet, plus a triangular section that is equal to half of 3.3 feet x 3.7 feet. This is a total of 195 square feet. The east side of the room is 14 feet x 13 feet, plus 5.1 feet plus 5.5 feet. This is a total of 210 square feet. All together this equals a total of 405 square feet. Based on 35 square feet per child, this is enough space for 12 preschool aged children. This configuration plus the capacity of 3 that the infant room allows is what was used to determine the center’s overall licensed capacity of 15 children. However, depending on the center’s enrollment, toddler aged children may attend this room as well. When children under 30 months of age are present the room capacity will be based on 50 square feet per child. Based on 50 square feet per child, there is enough space for a room capacity of 8 toddler and preschool aged children. This would require that no more than 11 children be in attendance at the center at one time. The double doors that join these rooms may also be closed to have the room function as two use spaces to allow for more individualized programing. If this occurs each side will have a qualified lead teacher. When only children aged 30 months and older are present, the room capacity will be based on 35 square feet per child. Based on 35 square feet per child, each half has enough square 2 footage for 6 preschool aged children. When children under 30 months of age are present, the room capacity will be based on 50 square feet per child. Based on 50 square feet per child, each half has enough square footage for 4 toddlers. The center’s total capacity is 15 children aged birth through 6 years. The center has one toilet and one handwashing sink for the children’s use. This supports the center’s overall capacity. The classrooms are furnished with an adequate amount of developmentally appropriate materials and equipment to support the center’s capacity and age range. The center does not provide food service, transportation, or swimming. An approved environmental health inspection was completed at the time of original issuance. An approved fire safety inspection was completed on 09/14/2014. The facility was constructed before 1978; therefore a lead risk assessment was required prior to original issuance. A lead risk assessment was conducted on 01/19/2010 and the center received a statement of no lead hazards being present on 05/11/2010. V. Recommendation I approve a change in age range for the toddler/preschool classroom, the relocation of the infant classroom, and an increase in capacity to 15 children. Jessica L.
