Dear Parents, Welcome to CDA Slammers FC Orange! We are thrilled to have your child at tryouts and we want them to be a part of our exciting 2017 season. CDA Slammers FC Orange is the competitive program within Orange Junior Soccer Club -- the largest youth sports organization in the city of Orange. Whether your child is coming to us from recreation or club (even from Orange County Premier), CDA Slammers FC Orange is a much different and much higher level of development, competition, and commitment. Every player in CDA Slammers FC Orange is on a soccer development pathway designed to develop distinguished players, exemplary students and upstanding young adults – and the commitment from our administrators, coaches, volunteers, families and players must support that development and higher level of competition. Players and coaches play within a structured player development model built upon enhancing each player and each team’s technical, tactical, physical, social and mental capabilities. Greater motor skill development (formation of new movements), supports improved technique (mastery and application), which leads to confidence in individual tactics (1v1 situations), followed by group tactics (combination of players) and ultimately team tactics. Whether this is your first time at a tryout or you are a veteran to competitive soccer, there is always a lot of information to absorb. We are happy to share all we know with you and also to make ourselves available for your questions. Attached please find answers to some frequently asked questions for both first time and returning players and families. I hope you find this information helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. We look forward to seeing you on the pitch and to serving you for many seasons to come. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS CDA SLAMMERS FC ORANGE. The Key To Our Success is the club’s ability to develop distinguished players, exemplary students and upstanding young adults. The program emphasizes skill, tactical awareness, confidence, determination, sportsmanship, team play, character development, and academic excellence. These aspirations are fostered by a professional coaching staff who is dedicated to each team and each player as they work together toward shared goals.Today, we are building the leaders of tomorrow. We Strive To Develop The Complete Individual through the game of soccer by providing them with the resources needed in order to reach their full potential, on and off the field. Our Training Philosophy Centers Around The Four Components Of The Game: Technical, Tactical, Physical and Psychological. Each player is challenged in a dynamic, competitive, and fun environment and is encouraged to make decisions under the guidance of a qualified coaching staff. One Club - One Family: We are ONE CLUB and each individual is a member of the CLUB and will benefit from all club resources. Our directors and coaches are connected at all levels operating under an integrated training philosophy and playing style. This creates a consistent learning environment for our players. The consistent use of club colors, logo, and style provides each member with a sense of belonging and we strive to promote and provide a family environment within the club and organize intra-club activities to create a family atmosphere. COMMITMENT LEVEL. CDA Slammers FC Orange teams train and compete year-round with most teams taking defined breaks. CDA Slammers FC Orange players are expected to be 100% committed to their CDA Slammers FC Orange team. Please note that many of our players participate in one or more extra-curricular activities in addition to soccer. If you can name an activity, we’re sure one of our players is in it. Please be sure to speak with your child’s coach regarding any conflicts your child might have. To compete at this level, a full-time commitment and dedication to training sessions and games will be necessary for every member of the team. The training and game schedule will be shared well in advance. The players will be expected to attend all practices, skills sessions, camps, tournaments, regular season games, and other team events. These are mandatory attendance expectations and will require a level of sacrifice and family vacation planning that is not for everyone. A player’s inability to commit fully to the team’s schedule may impact that player’s placement. This level of commitment and dedication is necessary to put each player and their team in the best position to succeed; and is what will be required of players at this level. We are sharing this important detail in this early communication so that there is a clear understanding regarding what is expected of every player. COST. Every CDA Slammers FC Orange player must pay a $450 registration fee and purchase a CDA Slammers FC Orange uniform – which costs approximately $250. The $450 fee pays for fields, lights, insurance, game day field set-up / take down, our program director, our technical director, our goalkeeper coach, registrar, and any/all administrative (website, Calsouth fees) and other fees required to operate CDA Slammers FC Orange. Beyond that $450 registration fee, all funds go directly towards coaching, tournaments, referees, and other expenses tied specifically to your child's team. There are differences in budgets from team-to-team based on variations in the above areas. For example, Team A might play seven tournaments while Team B might play ten. With tournaments costing several hundred dollars each, the budgets for Team A and Team B will be different. There are also differences in how actively teams fundraise and how those efforts help reduce the cost of participation. The club, in discussion with the team’s coach, sets the budget and payment schedule. An individual parent (or a group of parents) does not set the team budget or payment schedule. All player accounts must be paid in full by October 1. Most player fees range from $1900 to $2300 per year (which includes the $450 but does not include the cost of uniform) and are established by the club for each team in their pre-season budget. Teams are encouraged to participate in club and team fundraisers and to identify sponsors to keep costs low. WHEN WILL I HEAR FROM CDA SLAMMERS FC ORANGE ON NEXT STEPS? The club will send an e-mail to parents this weekend with next steps for their child and the age group / team they are trying out for. Placement of individual players on specific teams is perhaps the most important task we have. We will make such placements with the goal of helping find each player the best possible environment for their development. HOW MANY TEAMS ARE THERE AND WHAT ARE MY CHILD'S CHANCES OF BEING SELECTED? CDA Slammers FC Orange currently has 34 teams – and we are adding many more in 2017. The number of CDA Slammers FC Orange teams varies per age group and gender. Typically, CDA Slammers FC Orange has two teams per age/gender (i.e., two Boys 2008 teams, two Girls 2008 teams) but in certain ages we have up to four teams. Rosters can change from year-to-year. In some age groups we are building new teams, in others we are adding players to existing rosters, in still others we are doing both. All interested players, new and returning, should attend tryouts and put forth their best effort as this is a great way for the club to gauge how many players have the skill and interest to play CDA Slammers FC Orange. IF MY CHILD IS SELECTED FOR CDA SLAMMERS FC ORANGE, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? While each team may be slightly different, many selected CDA Slammers FC Orange players will be offered a roster spot and begin training with their teams immediately. Other players might be invited out to additional training sessions, and a more individualized evaluation, before a roster spot is offered. If at any time throughout the tryout process you have any questions regarding your child’s status, please contact Jim Watson at [email protected]. WILL THERE BE ADDITIONAL TRYOUTS FOR 2004-2010 PLAYERS? Yes, but not a club-wide tryout like this week. Instead any interested players should contact program director Erick Hurtarte at [email protected] so that they might be directed to the appropriate coach, at which point the coach invites interested players out to a team training session. If you know someone who missed the tryout, please have them contact the club immediately. Rosters will fill up quickly after today so it is important to be sure the club knows about everyone interested in playing. Information on tryouts for 2003-1999 players can be found at www.ojsc.org. WHEN WILL ROSTERS BE SET? Some rosters will be set within the next few weeks. Rosters can be a work in progress throughout the Spring. However, most rosters take shape between mid-January and March. If you know of any players interested in CDA Slammers FC Orange and did not attend tryouts, please have them contact us immediately. Each year some rosters fill very quickly and folks miss out because they weren’t aware of the timeframe in which rosters get set. WHAT IF THERE ARE TWO OR MORE TEAMS AT MY CHILD’S AGE? AND I FAVOR ONE OVER THE OTHER? WHAT IF I WANT MY CHILD TO “PLAY UP” INTO AN OLDER AGE GROUP? The CDA Slammers FC Orange program director makes the final decision regarding player placement. IF MY CHILD IS NOT SELECTED FOR CDA SLAMMERS FC ORANGE, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? OJSC has a place for every child. Our Signature and Recreation programs are remarkable and offer players the ability to play soccer year-round if they want to. If your child is not selected for a CDA Slammers FC Orange team we will connect you with the appropriate OJSC program. REGULAR SEASON, GAMES and TOURNAMENTS. CDA Slammers FC Orange teams have schedules designed to maximize player development. Our teams play a 10-14 game Fall regular season beginning the weekend after Labor Day. Some teams also play an 8-10 game Spring regular season between mid-March and late May. Games are on Saturdays and Sundays. Teams play between 6-10 additional tournaments during the year. Teams are required to play in certain tournaments, including the two tournaments our club hosts, and have discretion to select additional tournaments. TRAINING. CDA Slammers FC Orange teams train AT LEAST two times per week with professional trainers. Typically teams train each Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday PLUS a third day. At certain times during the year, CDA Slammers FC Orange provides clubwide skills sessions on Friday evenings. The club sets each team’s training schedule including days/times/locations. Goalkeepers (full or part time) are expected to attend at least one weekly goalkeeper training session with the CDA Slammers FC Orange goalkeeper coach. Goalkeeper training is offered at no extra cost to the players. Many players train in 1-on-1 or small group settings in addition to their team training. Players are also expected to attend a four-day Summer Academy (dates TBA). TRAVEL. Home games are played in Orange. Away games are typically in neighboring cities but, depending on the competition level of the team, can be played at significant distances. CDA Slammers FC Orange hosts two tournaments played in Orange within which all our teams must play. The club selects several additional local tournaments that each CDA Slammers FC Orange team must participate in. Additional tournaments may be played at the team’s discretion and can be played locally or at significant distances. MORE QUESTIONS?
