Inmate with AIDS
dies at Central Prison
KUWAIT: A security source said that a Kuwaiti AIDS patient
died in his solitary cell. The inmate, in his forties, was serving a
jail sentence at the central prison. Forensics personnel recovered the body and disinfected the cell and surroundings.
Death sentence upheld
The cassation court upheld the death sentence of a suspect and a 10-year jail sentence for a second in a murderrobbery case at the vegetable market in Sulaibiya. The
court fined two other suspects KD 500 each. The prosecution accused the main suspect, a bedoon, and the second, a Syrian, of killing two victims with a machinegun.
While the first did the shooting, the second backed him
up with a knife. The prosecution also charged them with
possessing an unlicensed firearm with thirty rounds,
besides stealing KD 12,000. They were also charged with
stealing a car, attempting to burn it and firing in a residential area. The third and fourth suspects were charged
with assisting the first two by harboring them.
Fraud
Director General of Ahmadi security sent two Asian nationals
to criminal detectives for buying and selling state-owned fuel.
A police patrol in Fahaheel noticed a fuel tanker parked next
to a bus with a hosepipe between them. When the driver was
questioned, he said that he purchases fuel at a lower rate from
the tanker driver.
Man dead in fire
Kuwait Fire Services Directorate’s investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that killed an Asian man in a
makeshift room and damaged four vehicles in Taima.
Liquor factory
A liquor factory was discovered in Mangaf during an inspection
campaign on ‘bachelor’ residences. Officers noticed two rooms
open with no one inside. They found out that one of the rooms
was used for making liquor and the other for prostitution, which
was divided into smaller sections, each with a bed.
Employee escapes
An Indian whose sponsor gave him KD 350 to pay for
traffic violations left the country with it, prompting his
sponsor to file theft charges against him. The sponsor
told Sabah Al-Salem police that he asked his driver to
pay for his traffic violations as he was running late. Police
later found that he had already left the country.
Firearm stolen
Detectives are searching for a thief who stole a licensed
firearm from a citizen’s car in Sabah Al-Salem. The citizen said
he found his shotgun missing with 50 cartridges, adding that

KUWAIT: The price of Kuwaiti oil went down by 75
cents Thursday, settling at $50.13 per barrel after being
at $50.88 pb the day before, Kuwait Petroleum
Corporation (KPC) said yesterday. At the global level,
the price went up due to a statement by the
International Energy Agency (IEA) regarding the shrink-
ing gap between supply and demand, which occurred
before the decision by OPEC and Non-OPEC members to
reduce their global oil output. The price of the Brent
Crude went up by 24 cents to $54.16 per barrel, the
same case with the American crude which also
increased by 29 cents to $51.37 pb. — KUNA
OPEC crude basket drops to $51.45 pb
VIENNA: OPEC’s daily basket price dropped 77 cents
on Thursday to settle at $51.45 per barrel compared to
$52.22 pb Wednesday. OPEC’s bulletin, released yesterday, said that the annual rate of its basket price for
2016 was $40.76 pb.

made up Saharan Blend (Algeria), Iran Heavy (Islamic
Republic of Iran), Basra Light (Iraq), Kuwait Export
(Kuwait), Es Sider (Libya), Bonny Light (Nigeria), Qatar
