First person to knock down all three pins wins Safety Tips Avoid hard balls and keep children out of the junkyard to avoid tripping on obstacles Refinements Have participants play a game of bowling where they first try and hit targets and then try and get past targets before introducing them to junkyard Modifications Simplification Remove or reduce number of obstacle Extension Allow each player to space out his bowling pins so more than one shot is required to win Inclusion Modification or Strategy Use fewer but larger obstacles, pins and balls to aid visually impaired participants , Games Category Age/ Grade Skill Focus Movement Concept Focus Target Game Grade 2-5 bowling manipulation PEKN 2P00 Assignment Template Blind Toss Purpose: Throw beanbags near the soccer ball Equipment Needed & Organization of Playing Area 1 soccer ball 2 bean bags for each participant 1 blind fold for each team Start on baseline of Basketball court Soccer ball must stay in basketball court boundaries How to Play Everybody splits up into teams of two and pairs up to play against one other team One member of each team starts on the baseline and covers their eyes with a blind fold. Each team will take turns starting off the round and rolling the soccer ball into the field of play Team 1 will then begin with the non-blindfolded member instructing their team mate on how to throw their bean bag as close to the soccer ball as possible. The non blind folded member can go into the field of play and stand right beside the soccer ball if necessary. Team 2 will then repeat the same process after team one has thrown once. Once each team has thrown their 5 bean bag, the scoring system is the same as curling, who ever has the closest beanbags scores a point for each one. Play a total of 4 rounds with each member being blind folded twice. Refinements Use a slow underhand toss for more accurate and effective throws instead of throwing overhand. Non blindfolded team mate be clear and specific about what they need to do. Modifications Simplification Remove the blind fold Make smaller court restrictions Extension Instead of bean bags use tennis balls Must throw with non dominant arm Inclusion Modification or Strategy - Switch every throw with your team mate instead of every round so that each round is more team based. Hoops must be taped to the floor when positioned correctly. 6 wiffle balls are placed in the first hoop (3 red and 3 blue). 4 wiffle balls are then placed in the remaining two hoops (2 red and 2 blue) Participants are then paired up and asked to find another pair to play against (now in groups of 4). One teams acts as the red team, and the other acts as the blue team. Participants must roll their tennis balls underhand (no over hand) Game is best played outside, as opposed to in a gym especially with a large class. Refinements Have the participants propel their tennis balls and attempt to knock more than one waffle ball out of the hoop using angles, force etc. Modifications Simplification Using larger balls than tennis balls (ie utility balls) will make the game significantly easier for the participants. Extension Add obstacles in front of the hoops Having the participants use objects to propel the tennis ball Inclusion Modification or Strategy THIS GAME COULD BE MADE INCLUSIVE FOR PARTICIPANTS IN A WHEEL CHAIR BY HAVING THEM USE OBJECTS TO PROPEL THE TENNIS BALLS. The purpose is for the participants to roll their tennis balls from the “throwing line” and knock the other teams wiffle balls out of the hoops (ie Red teams knocks blue teams balls out and vice versa). The team with the most balls in the hoops at the end of the game are the winners Safety Tips Separate games must be set up an ample distance from one another.
