ABOUT THE PROJECT
The purpose of the project




The purpose of this project was to join three student groups in
three different countries. They are in Finland (Harjavalta),
Latvia (Olaine) and Sweden (Kiruna).
The students worked in teams from all three schools using
ICT (the Moodle platform, Adobe Connect, Facebook, Skype
and e-mails and of course face-to-face during project
meetings.
The students studied each other's hometowns (NOT THEIR
OWN!) paying attention to their environment, history,
geography, economy, and life in general and possibly great
changes in these fields.
The students learned to work together with foreign partners
and they learned basics of cartography, geographical
information systems and how to prepare and present a
regional research.

Schools:
in olaine is 2 schools and also one college. Secondary school no 1- school in Latvian
language from 1-12 class. Secondary school no 2- school in Russian language from 1-12 class.
Olaine Mechanics and Technology College – college, where students can go after 9th and
12nd and study biology, pharmaceuticals and chemistry.
Hospitals:
In Olaine there is hospital. In hospital you can take the x- ray photos, can visit a surgeon, if
you have something broken.
And we have, 5 family doctors.
Police and fire station:
There is 1 state police station and 1 self-government police station. 1 fire station.
Restauransts:

In olaine they have 1 pizzeria (safari), 3 cake shops and 1 Restaurant (Arcah)
Arcah is a armenian kithechen restaurant.
Free time:

There is 2 stadiums. 1 sport place (OLAKS). We have 1 culture center, when (sometimes)
they can watch movies. 1 museum – Olaine's history and art museum (Olaines mākslas un
vēstures muzejs). They also have a lot of celebrates in culture canter and in the new
bandstand.
Kindergardens:
They have 4 kindergardens – Ābelīte, Saulīte, Zīle and Dzērvenīte. Ābelīte is a special
kindergarden for children with problems (free), Zīle, Dzērvenīte – city kindergarderns.(free),
Saulīte which is Privacy (cost).

Libarary:
In olaine there is 1 city library for adults, 1 for childern and 3 schools libraries.
Shops:
In oleine is a lot of product shops – biggest is Maxima
And we have 3 clothes shops.
