Chapter 3 Physical Science Test Review Sheet (2013) Below is a list of items which will be on the upcoming test. It is to be used as a frame of reference, not a lineby-line description of what is on it. The test will be divided into two sections. The first section described here will be the assessment portion which you will be given an opportunity to improve your grade. The other portion of the test will be divided between multiple choice and short answer/essay questions. You will only be given one opportunity to take this portion of the test. Assessment There is no assessment with this test Multiple Choice/Short Answer/Essay -Students will understand and be able to apply the following terms: energy evaporation melting point thermal energy sublimation pressure adiabatic lapse rate - temperature pascal freezing point intermolecular forces deposition buoyant force kinetic energy fluid ionized boiling point melting condensation hydraulic device potential energy plasma work condensation point freezing vaporization viscosity Students will describe the kinetic theory of matter. Students will describe what happens to kinetic energy and temperature as a substance changes from one physical state to another. Students will compare/contrast the different states of matter and their characteristics (shape, volume) Students will describe the unique properties of water. Students will describe what 2 characteristics affect the temperature (thermal energy) of a substance. Students will describe how kinetic energy and temperature are related. Students will describe/apply the law of conservation of mass and energy. Students will describe Archimede’s, Pascal’s, and Bernoulli’s principles Students will identify, describe, and give examples of the 3 different gas laws (Charle’s, Boyle’s, GayLussac’s). Students will know the Combined Gas Law and how to use it.
