CLASSES FOR
FITNESS & TONING

This class is a mixture of cardiovascular and
resistance exercises designed to target a range of
muscle groups in the body. It will help improve your
cardiovascular fitness and help to define and tone
your body with a variety of exercises to ensure you
get a full body workout.
ACTIVE YOGA
This Yoga class is a more energetic form of yoga.
With this session you will acquire great strength
and flexibility. What a great way to start your
day by taking part in this yoga session to help
strengthen your body and focus your mind.
BOXERCISE
Boxercise is a very popular fitness training method
designed for you to experience the thrills of boxing
without the contact. The session will include the
combination of pad work, skipping, footwork, and
speed work allowing your upper and lower body to
receive an invigorating workout.
BUMS AND TUMS
This class offers a whole series of exercises from
crunches to lunges to air cycling to squats, aimed
at specifically toning up the bum and tummy area.
When it comes to shifting the excess fat, these are
the parts of your body which prove difficult. So by
targeting these areas, you are tackling the problem
areas in a fun but very effective session. What a
nice feeling when you see the rewards of those
toned areas!
COUCH TO 5K RUN
Using the woodland walkways as our route, this
class will help you ease into running at a gradual
level. The idea is to transform you from a couch
potato to a runner, getting you running three miles
(5K) on a regular basis. This session will get you
fit and the emphasis is on increasing the time or
distance you run each week. Don’t miss out and
enjoy tracking your fitness over the 5 weeks.
FAB ABS
An effective class which targets the stomach
muscles and helps to tone and tighten the core
area. All abdominal exercises are complemented
with back strengthening exercises to create a
balance which in turn improves posture.
KETTLEBELLS SESSION
Get ready for a dynamic workout. Burn the calories
in this circuit training class which focuses on cardio
and sculpting your body using a Kettlebell. Take on
the challenge of a maximum strengthening, cardio
conditioning, and fat burning workout. Unlike the
traditional weights, the kettlebell swings while
engaging your core with every move that will tone
up your abs and sculpt your body shape.

PILATES FOR BEGINNERS
This class is designed for beginners and its focus
is on the Pilates principles of breathing, core
stabilisation, alignment, body awareness and
control. Enjoy the opportunity to learn how to
develop those core postural muscles and aim to
improve the perfect balance between strength and
flexibility for your body.
SPIN & TONE FOR BEGINNERS
Have you ever wanted to experience the immense
health benefits of an indoor cycling class, but
wanted to ease yourself into the basics? Then Spin
& Tone for Beginners is the class for you! Get ready
to learn about the foundational concepts such as
an introduction to the bike, how to set yourself up
on the bike, body positioning and riding techniques.
This is the best of both worlds and is geared towards
students who have never tried spinning before. You
get access to high intensity fat burning spinning
and toning exercises which allows your body to
get great results. Great music and motivating
instructors inspire you to focus on improving your
own level of fitness each week.
VERTICAL DANCE FOR BEGINNERS
Grab one of the provided harnesses, and take your
core fitness to new heights with Aerial Cirque’s pop
up class Vertical Dance. Best described as a dancing
abseiler, this emerging dance form suspends dancers
using climbing equipment and the wall from which
to stand, jump, invert, cartwheel, and maybe even
flip. You will be kept low to the ground to allow you
learn proper technique. This class is delivered by
Ireland’s leading professional aerialists. Don’t miss
out as this class is sure to bring something unique
and exciting to your work out. ZUMBA FITNESS
Featuring Latin rhythms and easy to follow dance
moves, Zumba Fitness is a dance exercise class
that keeps everyone motivated by creating a dance
party atmosphere. No dance experience is required
and no matter what your fitness level is, Zumba
Fitness will improve your cardio health. This class is
entertaining and it demonstrates how exercisers are
busy burning calories and getting fit while enjoying
the fun of Latin dancing.
BADMINTON FOR FUN
This session will provide a great opportunity to
drop in and play badminton where the focus
will be on fun, exercising and meeting other GIG
members who enjoy playing badminton. Open to
both males & females and is suitable for all skill
levels where a coach will be on hand to oversee
the session to ensure you are getting a quality
workout.
BASKETBALL FOR FUN
This session will provide a great opportunity to
drop in and play basketball where the focus will
be on fun, exercising and meeting new friends who
also enjoy playing basketball. Drop in, be part
of a team and enjoy playing against other GIG
members. Open to both males & females and is
suitable for all skill levels.
GIG LUNCHTIME SOCIAL SPORT
Have you time to kill between lectures? Want
to build your sense of ‘team spirit’? Looking for
something fun to do in your lunch hour? Then
why not take part in the GIG lunchtime social
sport. This session will offer sports from indoor
soccer, badminton, basketball, Ultimate Frisbee.
This session will be supervised to ensure it runs
smoothly and mixed teams will be encouraged.
Come along so you don’t miss out on the fun.
HIP HOP FOR BEGINNERS
Hip Hop is a high-energy dance class that teaches
a variety of movements, rhythm, and routines to
current chart music. This class is about creativity,
dynamics, rhythm and looking down right cool.
What a great way to keep fit and have fun.
INTRODUCTION TO GYMNASTICS
This is a perfect opportunity for ‘wannabees’ and
‘has-beens’ to enjoy the fitness benefits and have
fun with gymnastics. This class will allow you to
learn how to fall and land safely aswel as teach
you a variety of basic gymnastics skills while at the
same time burning lots of energy.
INTRODUCTION TO TRAMPOLINE
This session is designed for anyone interested
in learning the trampoline. You will experience
one-to-one coaching and you will learn the basics
skills aswel as enjoy the fun and excitement that
trampoline can offer.

RELAXATION & RECOVERY
IRISH DANCING FOR BEGINNERS
Everyone has heard of Riverdance but few people
have had the opportunity of learning how to dance
the Irish way. This class offers you the chance to
learn the traditional Irish dancing in a fun, friendly
and supportive environment. It is a great way to
keep fit and a fantastic way to meet other GIG
members who are interested in Irish dancing.
No partner is required or no special clothing or
footwear. Just drop in and experience the energy
that Irish dancing can give you.
ROCK CLIMBING FOR BEGINNERS
Experience climbing our state-of-the-art indoor
climbing wall and enjoy the exhilarating feeling
of this challenging activity. This activity will
take place on the UCD Climbing Wall under the
supervision of a qualified climbing instructor
where you will learn the basics of climbing in a
safe environment.
SWIMMING FOR BEGINNERS
This class is designed for participants who have
very little or no swimming experience and may
be fearful or uncomfortable in the water of any
depth. The class will provide instruction in basic
water skills and an introduction to basic swimming
strokes. The class is intended to help participants
gain confidence and self-reliance in the water.
SWIMMING TO IMPROVE TECHNIQUE
Would you like to become more efficient and
enjoy swimming? Once you have learned to
swim, you can carry on improving your swimming
stroke until you are swimming in a streamlined
and efficient way. If you want to swim faster or
just want to feel as though you are improving,
then this is the class for you where the session
concentrates on helping you improve your stroke
technique.
FLEX N STRETCH
Flexibility is a vital component of fitness for both improving flexibility
and also reducing the risk of injury which are important when you are
starting out on a fitness programme. It’s often neglected and can be a
challenge to do on your own – so why not join this class and learn some
new stretches to add to your library as well as the familiar ones.
MEDITATION
Close your eyes. Become aware of your body…how is it feeling right
now? If you have any tension, gentle breathe into these places and
imagine them relaxing…all unnecessary tension…dissolving. This class
introduces you to meditation to help you relax your body, build internal
energy and free your mind from a busy student lifestyle. Take some time
out from your schedule and experience the calming effect which this
meditation class can offer you.
THERAPEUTIC RECOVERY SESSION
This session is designed to advise and teach GIG members how to prevent
exercise related injury and manage exercise related muscle soreness.
The session is delivered under the guidance of qualified physiotherapists
from the UCD Physio Hub and incorporates therapeutic exercise, manual
therapy, stretching and the use of foam rolling. This session supports the
GIG philosophy of empowering participants to adopt sustainable and
safe exercise behaviours.
YOGA FOR RELAXATION
This class places emphasis on physical alignment, understanding of
correct anatomical movement, and various deep relaxation techniques.
It increases strength, flexibility, and awareness of the body, developing
more healthful movement. Relaxation techniques help with stress
more effectively. Yoga is an excellent way to stretch and strengthen the
body, focus the mind, and relax the spirit. In fact, most modern stressreduction techniques are based on the principles of yoga.
YOGA & PILATES FUSION
This class combine yoga stretches and Pilates core strengthening
exercises to bring you the best of both worlds. The aim of the class is
to not only improve your body posture, increase your muscle tone and
develop those abs but also to help de-clutter the mind and experience a
state of relaxation at the end of the class.
WEIGHT TRAINING TECHNIQUE CLASS
Start your fitness on the right foot and revisit
the basics of weight training to safely ensure you
have a strong foundation. This class is designed
to teach proper weight training technique, and
learning how to understand different rep/set
combinations, which can build strength and tone
the muscles. If you are new to weight training, this
class is a great place to start!
