MOTION
That the Council determines to reschedule the 25 October 2016 Council meeting
to Wednesday 19 October 2016.
INTRODUCTION/DISCUSSION
As the ‘’election period’ (commonly referred to as the ‘caretaker’ period)
commences on 20 September 2016, it is timely to address a number of issues that
will need to be taken into consideration during this lead up to the 2016 Council
elections.
The scheduled meeting of the Council in October is too soon after the holding of
the 2016 Council elections to guarantee that elections in each ward will have
been finalised and therefore all Councillors elected.
Rescheduling the meeting to the week prior to the elections will enable the
normal business of the Council to be conducted, within the legislative
requirements of the Local Government Act 1989, as it applies to the ‘election
period’.
