The Sherbrooke BiblioPôle is a cooperative arrangement amongst the libraries of the Sherbrooke region.
Through this partnership, members in good standing may take advantage of many of the services of
other member libraries through either direct borrowing privileges or through interlibrary loan.
The Historical Treasures of Bishop’s University’s Old Library
Bishop’s University’s Old
Library houses books and
archival material on the
history of Canada with
particular attention to the
history of the Eastern
Townships. The Old Library
has an active commitment to
acquire any publication (old
or new, English or French)
pertaining to the historical
Eastern Townships.
In addition to the valuable
Mackinnon and Scowen
Collections, the Old Library
also includes many town and
parish histories, catalogues
for births, deaths and
marriages, cemetery lists,
historical maps and various
other resources of interest to
genealogists and local
researchers. Available on
microform, you will find
resources such as Canadian
nominal census returns (up
until 1901), civil status
registers, notary records
and a selection of historical
Eastern
Townships
newspapers.
Due to the uniqueness of this
collection, the Old Library is
not a lending library, and
therefore, resources in this
collection are for
consultation on site only. All
members of BiblioPôle
Sherbrooke are welcome to
visit and discover this unique
and valuable collection.

Interlibrary Loans: Bibliopôle libraries deliver!
Over the course of
2008/2009, 681 documents
were lent out through the
Bibliopôle’s interlibrary loan
service. The large majority of
these loans were books and
articles from academic journals.
With its collection of more than
800,000 documents, the
“Service des bibliothèques et
archives de l’Université de
Sherbrooke” lent out 75% of
these documents. Bishop’s
University, for its part, lent out
20%.
The Interlibrary Loans service
of the Bibliopole Sherbrooke
allows members to request
items from any other Bibliopole
library and have them
delivered to their home library.
Anyone interested in this service
may contact their library for
more details.
To consult the collections of
other Bibliopôle libraries, visit
the library’s website and
conduct a search in their online
