TheSlatesystemperformsbestintheFirefoxandChromebrowsers.
ToaccesstheSlatesystem,openyourbrowserofchoiceandenterthefollowingaddress:

LoginusingyourCNETIDandPassword.
Onceanapplicationisstarted,itexistsasavirtualfilewithinSlate,whichmovesthroughouttheprocessina
varietyofways–actionstakenbytheapplicant,administrator,andreaderscanchangethestatusandlocation
ofthisvirtualfile.Someofthishappensautomatically,butalmosteverythingcanbedone,oroverridden,
manually.
Slateitselfhasseveralcomponents,oneofwhichisabuiltinsystemformanagingandviewingthese
applications.ThisportionofSlateiscalledthe“Reader.”
ToaccesstheReaderinSlate,gotothesiteapply-graham.uchicago.edu/manage/orclickontheReaderbutton:
YouwillstartoutintheReader’s“Home”section,withnavigationchoicesontheleftside:
Home–bringsyoubacktotheHomescreenoftheReader.
Browse–ShowsyouthenumberofapplicationscurrentlycontainedineachBin.Binsarevirtualholding
containersforapplicationsastheygothroughthestagesofreview.Applicationscanbemovedtocategorize
theirstageinthereadingcycle.ClickonaBinboxtoseealistoftheapplicationswithinthatbin.

Search–showsalistofallapplicationsinyourcluster.Tosearchforaspecificapplication,typetheapplicant’s
name(last,first)intothesearchboxlocatedintheupperrightcornerofthescreen.Youcanalsoapplyoneor
moreavailablefiltersfromthedrop-downsectionontherighttoidentifyfilesthatmeetyourdesiredcriteria.
Queue–isthestorageplaceforapplicationsforyourreview.Administratorsmayputapplicationsinyour
queueforrevieworyoucanputthemthereyourself.TousetheSlateReviewForm,anapplicationhastobein
yourqueue.
Recent–showsapplicationsyou’veviewedinthepast.
Share–allowsforasharedscreensessionwithotherlogged-inSlateusers.
Classify–isanewfeatureunderdevelopmentthatwillallowtemporarybinmovementtoviewpotential
admissionnumbers.
Help–containsadditionalinformationonusingtheReaderfunctioninSlate.
Exit–closestheReader.
Readinganapplication
Toreadanapplicationfromthesearchwindow,clickonthe
Slate.
icon.Thiswillopentheapplication“Reader”in
Thelistofapplicationcomponentsisontheleft
side–darkergreyitemsareavailabletobeclicked
onorscrolledthrough;lightergreytextmeansthat
itemisnotpresentinthefile.
YoucanaddanapplicationtoyourQueueto
reviewitbyclickingonthe“AddtoQueue”boxin
thelowerlefthandcorner.

SharedReaderSession
Slatecanbeusedtoconductasharedscreensessiontoreviewapplicationsasagrouponseparatescreens.This
functionalityallowsagroupofauthenticateduserstoreviewasingleapplication.Controlofthesharedscreenis
madebytheuserwhoinitiatesthesessionandotherswhosignoncanthenelecttoparticipateandviewthe
sharedsession.
Tostartasharedsession,clickontheSharenavigationbuttonontheleft-handside.ThenclickonStartSession.
Afterthesharedsessionisestablished,thewindowwillupdatetoshowyouarehostingasharedsession.You
canthennavigatetoanapplicationandanythingyoudointheReaderwillbevisibletootherparticipants.To
closethesession,navigatebacktoShareandclickonCloseSession.
Tojoinasessioninprogress,clickonthesessionfromthelist.Awindowwillaskforconfirmationthatyouwish
tojointhesession.
YouwillnowseethatyouareconnectedtothesharedsessionandcanexitbyclickingonLeaveSession.
