School Council
Our Annual General Meeting is on Monday 20th
March at 7.00pm in the Staffroom. Being on
Council is a very rewarding role where we work
together to improve the education we provide at
Echuca Primary School. The election closes at
4.00 pm this afternoon with our two candidates
Lauren Arthurson and Sarah Phillips vying for our
one parent position. Votes cannot be accepted after
this time. If you have not voted as yet, please make
sure that you make your vote count by having it in
by 4.00pm this afternoon. Thank you to the many
parents who have already placed their votes in the
ballot box. Votes will be counted early on Friday
morning by the President and Vice President. I will
act as scrutineer. Candidates will be contacted on
Friday and the successful applicant will be advised
in next weeks’ newsletter. School Council
Governance training will be held on Tuesday 28th
March from 6.30pm-9.00pm. New Councillors are
expected to attend so that they have a full
understanding of their role in School Council.
Parents & Friends
It is proven that volunteering is a very rewarding
past time. Giving surpasses receiving. Our P & F
team work diligently to ensure that we have the
best opportunities for our school. Their next
meeting is on the 24th March so please consider
joining the team. They would love to have you
along.
Vandalism
Unfortunately we have fallen victim to a bit of
vandalism over the weekend. We had two
unknown characters on the roof on Friday night
creating havoc and to our dismay a large piece of
graffiti was discovered on one of the paths in the
school. The police were contacted on both
occasions. If anyone passing the school afterhours,
sees anything suspicious please report this to the
police. Thank you to Scott Trewhella, Zac Campbell
and Wayne Phyland for working hard to ensure the
path was pressure washed in time for our students
coming to school.

YMCA After School Care
I am still awaiting word from the YMCA as to the
outcome of their decision regarding after school
care. The last correspondence that I received was
that they were going to talk to the Department of
Education and let me know of the outcome.
LOTE Teacher (Language other than English)
After many months of searching we have finally
been successful in employing an Indonesian LOTE
Teacher. Mrs Tania Dixon will commence teaching
LOTE to the Prep – Grade Two Students from the
beginning of next term for three days a week. Mrs
Dixon comes with a wealth of teaching experience
and understanding of the Indonesian language. Mrs
Dixon also teaches LOTE part time at St. Mary’s
Primary School.
School Holidays
It is hard to believe that the term is drawing to a
close. We only have another two weeks to go.
School closes at 2.20pm on Friday 31st March. Well
done to the Preps on their great start to school life
and the Grade 1 & 2s for surviving the ever
important swimming program. It’s great to see that
most of the students throughout the school have
settled and are working consistently. We are so
lucky to have such a great staff team who work
tirelessly to ensure that all students are catered for.
Thank you also to our parent community for
making 208 the best school in the State. School will
resume on Tuesday 18th April.

morning. They will have two more sessions with

Hi, I’m Ruby and I joined the SAT because I wanted
to have a leadership role in the school and I wanted
to make some fun activities for younger students. I
am looking forward to running the performance
group on Wednesday lunchtimes and lots of other
things, such as working at the canteen.
April Hanna
Hi, I’m April and I joined the SAT because it sounds
fun and I wanted to have fun and get to know
younger students so that they can have fun too. I’m
looking forward to this year as I really want to help
and teach the younger students how to play
together.
Aylee York
Meanwhile, our Koorie students were lucky enough
to be invited to join tennis legend Evonne
Goolagong for an Indigenous Tennis Come and Try
Day. These students returned to school absolutely
beaming. There is nothing quite like getting advice
and inspiration from a superstar. Back at school, the
remaining students were engaged in Skittle Soccer,
Kickball and Dance for their Sport session. Friday
Sport sure is fun and keeps us active!
My name is Aylee. I joined the SAT so that I can
have more responsibilities such as Anzac Day and
other community events. I also love to sing, dance
and act, so running the performance club at
lunchtimes is something I am really looking forward
to.

we had lunch which was a salad sandwich.
Rising Sports Star
Mr. T and Paul came to watch everyone play. Paul
played tennis with me for a little bit then he
played with Sienna P. Sienna and I went to see
Baden when we got there because he was our
coach.
After lunch we had to do challenges so Baden had
to be with the littler kids. When there were 10
minutes left I said goodbye to Baden and took a
picture with him. Then it was time to go. It was
amazing and I hope it's on next year.

Don’t forget tomorrow is National Ride2School
Day. This day is an opportunity for all Australian
students and school communities to embrace a
healthier start and to try walking and riding to
school for themselves.
Highlighting our schools commitment to healthy
lifestyles, we will be hosting a healthy breakfast in
the amphitheatre from 7.45am to 8.30am. On the
menu will be pancakes, fruit salad and yogurt.
On Friday the 10th of March, 14 students from 208
travelled to Vic Park to see Aboriginal tennis great
Evonne Goolagong and other Indigenous sporting
icons. We received a drink bottle and t-shirts
signed by Evonne Goolagong. We were lucky
enough to have a hit with her and some of us got
to have a photo with Evonne. Lunch was
scrumptious, we got to have chicken and salad. It
was a great day and we learnt a lot. Thanks to Mr
Trewhella for helping to organise it.

Tomorrow is also our Loud Socks Day, you might
like to go even further and decorate your bike,

Last week
were lucky and
enough
to have
some experts visit our class to demonstrate and
teach us some traditional dances. The boys looked
just like kangaroos, brolga and emus in their dance
while the girls learned a dance about gathering and
digging for food. We’d like to thank Paul Clarke,
Neva and our own Grade 5/6 dancers, Darchi,
Charles, Narrun, Anthony and Tylor for working
with us. It was lots of fun.
