Chair Report
Happy 2016! I hope you are well rested (or recovered) from the holidays and ready to take on the New Year in
Al-Anon service! I know that all of the groups in SC Al-Anon are grateful for the service work that is done at
all levels of service – from group, to district, to Area and to WSO. Without your level of commitment, your
experience, strength and hope and your dedication to Al-Anon, we would not be where we are today.
Over the next year, you will notice a theme of participation, service and giving back. We will try to have
workshops at each Assembly that will fit this theme.
As I reflected over my last year of service during the holidays, I noticed how much happier my life is, and how
much more security and peace I find today. I appreciate the small moments in life – time with my adult
grandchildren, seeing my nephews get married, watching Star Wars with my youngest grandson. I am blessed
today. All of this is due to the Al-Anon program, the people I have come to know through this program and the
growth that service work has given me.
As I see each of you at Assembly, I realize that you, too, are experiencing this kind of growth in Al-Anon. I
look forward to this last year as Chair and working with you all.

is ready and registered for 2016 Convention . if not, time is counting down . Shortly after I will be attending
2016 Delegates get together and then on to 2016 Conference . I have already got 4 blankets ready to go [HA
HA ] . still looking forward to being there . So lets put on our smiles , our determination , and make this a great
year for Panel 54 S.C.

ALTERNATE DELEGATE REPORT
Just as Al-Anon and Alateen have us take our own inventories, we can also check on our groups' health in the
same way. Two of our guidelines focus on taking our Group inventory. The guidelines are located at: www.alanon.org/members using a password of your Group Name followed by AFG.
So I would enter:

Love Bunch AFG
Then go to Groups - Group Resources - Guidelines and find G-8 A & B.
But we know these are guidelines. Another way to do an inventory is to list 3 things you like about your Group
and 3 things that could make the Group a better Group. And below I've included a different inventory. I've been
told "if your group is not the best group you've attended, change it".

updates from me to the web site. The groups are current on the WSO data base. Now we can tackle the updates
on the web site.

DISTRICT REPORTS
District 2 Report
District 2 continues to function very well and allof us were saddened by Pam P’s auto accident since it was
quite severe. Pam is recovering and is in rehab and making progress daily. We all pray for a full recover;
however, it will take time.
Two important votes were taken and the results are as follows:
District 2 will keep our meetings to 4 annually since this seems to be working and our attendance has been
better. Convention planning can be a part of the program or there can be meetings in-between the regular
district meetings.
District 2 decided that since there are many free outreach tools available (800 #, 211 service and the service
centers) that we will not use a district answeringservice. The cost of this service would be cost prohibitive for
the district.
District 2 has another new group that has formed:

District 4 Report
On Saturday December 12 district 4 held its annual the holiday party. Suffice to say food and fellowship were in
abundance. Several of our small groups are suffering financially and from the lack of membership support.
Please keep those small struggling groups in your thoughts and prayers.

District 5 Report
We have a meeting scheduled for January 17th in Florence, SC. We will be working on our “Spring Into
Recovery” All Day. We are looking for a location and speakers and dates at this time. We do not have
anything new going on at this time.

District 6 Report
I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Our attendance was very good for our November meeting which
was also our All Day “Gratitudefest”. We held a short business meeting to finalize a few items of business.
Our chairperson for the Gratitudefest could not attend due to healthy problems, but her stand-ins, Annette and
Thersea did a fabulous job. The decorations were hand painted Gratitude jars – autumn colors on gold
tablecloths. The jars were used as game prizes and the door prize. Cheryl C. did an excellent job on the jars.
Our speaker, Tina W, spoke on her gratitude for the Al-Anon program in her life. Good job, ladies!
It was announced that 5 of our groups were having pot luck/speaker meetings during November and December.
At the close of our All Day, we were notified that as of January 31, 2016, the Walterboro AA building will be
closing.
As of January 30, 2016, our district meetings will be 2 meetings in St. George, SC at the old fire station and city
hall building – 305 Ridge St – and the other 2 meetings will be in the Bluffton/Hilton Head area.

District 7 Report
District 7 had two holiday parties in December. The Serenity group in North Charleston hosted a party with the
AA group that meets in the same facility. There was a delicious dinner complete with turkey, ham, sides and
desserts. Two wonderful speakers from Al-Anon and AA told their stories.
On December 31st, the Berkeley group in Monks Corner got together with the AA group that meets in the same
building for a pot luck dinner. An Al-Anon and an AA speaker shared their stories. It was a great way to spend
New Year’s Eve!

Several meetings were available to those in need on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New
Year’s Day in District 7. Those who volunteered to show up on those days gave a much needed service to AlAnon.

District 9 Report
We still have our 2 Alateen Groups, but our Alateen Sponsors have decreased from 4 to 3. Judy R. continues
to bring interest and Alateen literature to the Alano Club where there is 14 open AA meetings a week. Judy R.
wrote an explanation of “What Alateen’s is All About” for the AA Alano Monthly Newsletter to bring
awareness to all who attend AA and Al-Anon meetings at that location.
Our last District monthly Open Al-Anon Speaker Meeting for 2015 was a combined Holiday Dinner and
Speaker at the Greenville Alano Club. The Meal was at 7pm and the Speaker was at 8 pm. We had about 84
people attend. It was a warm and cozy Fellowship.
At our November Business meeting, it was voted that we would try something new with our Monthly Open
Speaker Meetings. They are all on the Second Sunday of the month, except for May, November, and
December, which will be on the first weekend. All the meetings will be at 2 pm, except for the December
Holiday Dinner and Speaker, which will continue to be at 7 pm. I attached that Schedule for all to see.
We had our January Speaker Meeting on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016. We had 40 people attend. Registrations were
given out for the 2016 Al-Anon State Convention at the beach. Registrations were also given out for the 2016
AA Convention, which will be held at the TD Center in Greenville, SC.
Our next District 9 Business Meeting is Tuesday, Jan.19, 2016, in Greenville at 6pm.
Our Public Outreach is contacting the School Guidance person in the different Schools to hand out Al-Anon
Faces Alcoholism 2015 and Meeting Schedules, to provide awareness. Another piece of the Public Outreach has
been the continual support by the Easley Does It Group to bring Al-Anon to Holmesview, a SC Vocational
Rehabilitation Facility in Greenville, for a meeting once a month. In August 2015, I emailed all GR’s to
announce the need for volunteers to partner with the Easley Does It Group and to participate in this Outreach.
We had strong results from individuals in different Groups across District 9. In 2016, we are trying to improve
the system. We have learned that we do not have to do this alone. We can ask for help.
The Al-Anon committee for the AA State Convention is busy creating Workshops and Fellowship that will be
held at the TD Center in Greenville, SC on March 17-19, 2016. There will be 2 Al-Anon Speakers and 4 AA
Speakers. There will be 4 Al-Anon Workshops on Friday and Saturday, before and after the Speaker meetings,

and Fellowship. We will sell ‘How Alanon Works” and hand out CAL literature. We hope to open the door to
AWARENESS of Al-Anon for all that attend. Cooperation has been paramount for this Convention.

YOU do not have a personal subscription to the FORUM - GO FOR IT! Make that YOUR resolution! The
more times I read a Forum - the more I appreciate just how valuable it is! Remember - you can request the
printed version and happily see it arrive in your mailbox on a monthly basis(in its plain white envelope of
anonymity!) OR you can request your Forum in its online form and it will MAGICALLY appear on your
computer(or phone or I-pad or tablet! if that's not magical I don't know what is)

Area Alateen Coordinator Report
The Alateen Task Force (#GrowSCAlateen!) is continuing to work and meet between our weekly Alateen
meetings, AWSC and Assemblies. We have had several conference calls to continue to discuss ways to grow
the program by growing awareness of the program and attracting more teens. We are focused currently on
preparing for the Alateen workshop, speaker, meetings, and fundraiser at the upcoming Convention.
We are also publicizing the 40th anniversary of the SC Alateen Camp – that is happening this July 22-24! It’s
the 40th year of our camp and we’re making it bigger than ever! ALL former Alateens or Alateen Sponsors are
invited to attend the entire weekend of activities. And as always all Al-Anons are invited to spend Saturday
with us as well. More information will be coming out – but we want Camp to be HUGE!! Put it on your
calendar NOW ;)
If you want to help with the Task Force or the Camp please let me know. A special Thank you to all the
Alateen Sponsors and Alateens across the state for keeping the program going.

There have been some minor changes and simplifications in our AMIAS Orientation Manual and Certification/Recertification forms. Much of this came about as the result of some confusion regarding recertification. Previously, no
matter when you certified, if you missed the May 31 deadline for recertification, you were required to wait a full year
before you could apply again for certification. Now, you can recertify anytime but if you miss the deadline you must
participate in a new orientation workshop before certifying. The bottom line: every certified AMIAS must recertify
between March 20 and May 31 of every year, regardless of when you first certify.
The Recertification forms have been shortened from three pages to one page, and the Certification forms are now only 3
pages. The Orientation Manual has also been edited to reflect the new changes. All AMIAS will receive a copy of these
materials in the near future, and they will hopefully be posted in the Alateen section of the members web site.

This spring WSO will mail an Alateen Group Annual Update Form to all Alateen Group CMAs. Please fill it out and send it
to me so I can help keep the website and the WSO database up to date. This is critical to those seeking an Alateen
meeting near them, especially newcomers. We don’t want to send people to empty meeting rooms!
Thanks everyone for all your patience and support during the last two years, and please consider this service position for
the next panel. It is a wonderful way to serve the fellowship and also learn a lot about the brilliant technology that
World Service employs. There have been great improvements and simplifications during my term. There are always
people at WSO a click or a phone call away to help, and many fellow travelers in similar positions in other states with
whom one can connect who contribute to the improvement of Al-anon / Alateen .
