Dear Parents:
First things first, tonight is the Mandatory Sacrament Meeting that we will all not stop
talking about! Tonight is the night that a parent of a child making their First Holy Communion,
First Reconciliation, or Confirmation must attend. The St. Peter Parish meeting and Archdiocese
presentation begins at 6:30 sharp at St. Peter. Our 8th Confirmandi students will also need to be in
attendance for a mandatory service project – 8th grade students only, no 2nd or 4th graders should
attend. If you have more than one child making a sacrament, only one parent needs to attend.
Please make sure you are there tonight; it would be lovely if St. Mary School had 100% attendance!
If not, we will be in contact in regard to the make-up meeting, which is your only other opportunity;
I would prefer not to have to deal with the ramifications of someone missing this important
component of our parish sacramental program.
Congratulations to our Kindergarteners who won the Holiday Party & Raffle donation
contest. Our Kindergarteners will enjoy a movie treat. We are all very grateful to all our families
who donated to the party. Your generosity was overwhelming and this Saturday night, your
generosity will generate funds for our school. The first quote to be faxed after the party, the invoice
for the last four Smart Boards for Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade & 8th grade! Thank you again
for your donations and thank you in advance for the great success that I am sure our Holiday Party
& Raffle will be this Saturday night! For those of you attending, please remember that our proceeds
generated Saturday night will be matched up to $25,000 from the Tersigni Foundation! Last year,
we exceeded our goal and they met our match and we are very grateful and excited to have the
Tersigni Foundation gives us this opportunity one more time!
Yesterday on that lovely November 1st spring like day, I had the pleasure of walking to Miller
Bros. Creamery with Mrs. Minoletti’s class. Mrs. Minoletti’s class surpassed the $500 Pennies from
Heaven goal and the ice cream treat was their prize! Thank you to all who donate to PFH and we
will wait and see who will be the next class to meet this goal! As always as I went to pay Irene at the
Miller Bros. Creamery located at 149 Dickinson St. in Mt. Clemens, Irene declined to take the
money. Over the course of all my years here, Irene has always refused to take the money for any
donations that she has given to St. Mary. Irene turned 91 in February and she is still going strong
and though we could never repay her for all her generosity, I will tell you it brings her great joy
every time a St Mary family stops by for an ice cream cone; so why not stop by one day on your way
home, it is well worth going a little out of your way.
A special Thank You to our 8th graders on their wonderful Haunted House last Friday night.
They did a beautiful job making “old” St. Mary a spooky place to be. A great deal of hard work goes
into that evening and it showed that they put 110% into the night. Our Athletic Booster Club made
$1800 that evening and our 8th graders received $100 in donations for their class! Thank you to all
who attended to make their efforts a huge success!
This Thursday, the Parent-Teacher Conference scheduling link will be sent out for all
families who have 3 or more children. Those families will have the weekend to schedule their
conferences and then Monday, the conference link will be sent out to all other families. If your time
frame is tight, please make sure you sign-up as soon as you can. Conferences this November will
not be held for our 3 year-old preschoolers; they are still trying to decide what this whole
“preschool” thing is all about!
Next Monday we kick-off our Student Council’s annual St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive. Our
families always go above and beyond during this drive to donate truckloads of food to our parish
food pantry. No words can properly convey the appreciation that the St. Peter St. Vincent de Paul
organization feel about our efforts. At times it is truly overwhelming the support given to this great
cause. One of the nicest aspects of this drive is even our littlest preschoolers can fully participate
and understand that they are helping those who are less fortunate. Thank you in advance for your
generosity for this activity as well!
On Monday, November 14th, we will have our open School Advisory meeting at 7:00 pm in
the school Cafeteria. Please join us this evening to hear the work the board is taking on this year. If
you have any questions you would like addressed, please email those questions to our chair person,
Aaron Martin at [email protected]. It is our policy that only those questions
emailed will be answered that evening. If you cannot attend and still have questions, please feel
free to email Aaron and he would be happy to answer them for you or find the right person who
can.
On Tuesday, we celebrated in prayer All Saints Day. For those in attendance, they learned
a great deal about the Saints our classrooms have chosen to learn about and to make a part of
their school experience this year. Our student participants did a great job; even our little three
year-old preschoolers; not an easy task to speak or participate in front of 4oo people, so they all
deserve our applause! Even though All Saints Day is behind us, the Saints of our faith are always
with us. So I leave you today with a prayer to remind all of us of the important role the Saints
play in our Faith and to remind us, that Saints come in all shapes and sizes, but their common
theme is a great love for others, a great love for their Faith and how their story brings to light
what we are all striving to be.
All Saints Day Prayer
We give you thanks, O God, for all the saints who ever worshiped you
Whether in brush arbors or cathedrals,
Weathered wooden churches or crumbling cement meeting houses
Where your name was lifted and adored.
We give you thanks, O God, for hands lifted in praise:
Manicured hands and hands stained with grease or soil,
Strong hands and those gnarled with age
Holy hands used as wave offerings across the land.
We thank you, God, for hardworking saints;
Whether hard-hatted or steel-booted,
Head ragged or aproned,
Blue-collared or three-piece-suited
They left their mark on the earth for you, for us, for our children to come.
Thank you, God, for the tremendous sacrifices made by those who have gone before us.
Bless the memories of your saints, God.
May we learn how to walk wisely from their examples of faith, dedication, worship, and love.
May grace and blessings be in your path,
Maureen Miscavish
Halloween Candy Donations
Not sure what to do with all that left over
Halloween candy? Feel free to send it in to school.
For the past few years we have boxed up the
donations and distributed the candy, chips, drinks,
popcorn, etc. to local adult group
homes. We would love to continue
this tradition and help you out at the
same time! If possible, please do not
donate candy made in China.
