Focus groups
Small groupings used by campaign strategists and those employed in public relations. The groups are chosen to be representative of the population or of a particular grouping that the strategists are seeking to target. Their response to each element of an advertisement are carefully charted.

e.g. in 1996 Clinton targeted 'soccer moms'
