YOUR FUNDRAISING GUIDE
bobbymoorefund.org
Thank you for registering for a fundraising pack. By raising
money for the Bobby Moore Fund you’re helping to make a
difference and changing the odds so that even more people
beat bowel cancer in the future.
Bowel cancer is the second most common
cause of cancer death in the United Kingdom.
Since Bobby Moore died of bowel cancer
in 1993, over 600,000 people have been
diagnosed with the disease in the UK –
enough to fill Wembley Stadium seven times.
Stephanie Moore MBE established the
Bobby Moore Fund in partnership with
Cancer Research UK in 1993. It’s because of
the support of people like you, that the Bobby
Moore Fund is now one of the leaders in the
fight against bowel cancer,
r funding world-class
r,
research that is helping more people to beat
this disease than ever before.
Inside this booklet, you’ll find information
to support your fundraising. We’re also
here to help you along the way, just call
us on 0300 123 1022 .
If you would like to speak to someone about
cancer, please call our cancer information

WHY MAKE
BOBBY PROUD?
The world’s greatest footballers could not
beat Bobby Moore…but sadly, bowel cancer did.

suggest it if your company doesn’t –
it’s tax-efficient for them and it could
double your fundraising total!

WHAT YOUR MONEY
CAN DO
Big or small, whatever you raise, you should be proud to know
that every pound will fund vital bowel cancer research that’s
saving lives.

Ashley Sheppard
Eileen Condon
Ashley was 40 years old when
he was diagnosed with bowel
cancer. He received both
radiotherapy and surgery
and is now doing well.
Eileen was diagnosed early
with bowel cancer after
her GP spotted she had
symptoms of the disease.
This early diagnosis gave
Eileen a much greater chance
of survival and she went on
to make a full recovery.

£2,000
= Cryotubes
= A microarray
= A day of
research
= One month of
DNA extraction
= Two weeks of
lab expenses
These are used by scientists
to store cancer cells and
tumour samples. They
have to withstand being
frozen to -80⁰C, to preserve
precious material like DNA.
Most plastics crack at such
extreme temperatures,
so cryotubes are essential.
£100 can buy over 1,100
of them.
This powerful piece of
kit can examine around
40-50,000 genes in a
tumour sample in one
go. Scientists use them
to help figure out the
differences between
cancer cells and normal
cells, pinpointing new
targets for the treatments
of tomorrow.
This could pay for one day
of a study, searching for
new ways to help doctors
predict how bowel cancer
will respond to treatment.
This research will also
uncover clues for new
treatments – helping more
people to beat bowel
cancer in the future.
Extracting the precious
DNA from cancer cells is the
first essential step on the
journey to uncover some
of the genes behind bowel
cancer – revealing new
ways to prevent, detect
and control the disease.
Prevention is one of the
most promising ways to
reduce the number of
deaths from this disease.
£2,000 could cover two
weeks of lab expenses
for a team investigating
new ways of preventing
bowel cancer.
Thanks to research, more people are surviving than ever before.
But we can’t stop there. With your help, we can beat bowel cancer sooner.

“Most of the proudest moments I have had
have been while fundraising and helping the
Bobby Moore Fund. I hope one day I can be
proud to say I help the charity find a cure in
memory of my Nan and Bobby”
Jonjo Heuerman
Jonjo has raised an incredible £267,000 and counting in
memory of his Nanny and Bobby Moore.
Cancer Research UK is a registered charity in England and Wales (1089464), Scotland (SC041666) and the Isle of Man (1103) and registered as
a company limited by guarantee in England and Wales No. 4325243. Registered address: Angel Building, 407 St John Street, London EC1V 4AD.
Thank you for supporting the Bobby Moore Fund
Over 40,000 people are diagnosed with bowel
cancer in the UK every year, but if diagnosed at
the earliest stage possible, more than 9 out of
10 people will survive.
It’s been over 20 years since we lost Bobby to
bowel cancer. Thanks to research, more people
are beating this disease than ever before. But
we need to do so much more.
Bobby made the nation proud when he brought
home the World Cup in 1966. Please support
his legacy and one day we will all make Bobby
proud and beat bowel cancer.
Thank you so much for your support,
