The north needs a new approach. Lowering taxes and reducing government regulation are proven strategies to encourage economic development. The federal Budget should have focused on establishing this type of framework in northern Australia. The NT Government should work with the WA and Queensland governments to build the case for a northern special economic zone, stretching across the top of Australia. Such a zone could become a massive economic driver that would boost the whole Australian economy.
