DAY 1 Jack, a handsome man in his late thirties, is dressed in heavy duty overalls and is carrying a tool box. He looks out of place and a little embarrassed as he makes his way through the glamourous hotel casino. A group of beautiful showgirls scuttle past him and brush him with their costume feathers. * * * * SHOWGIRL 1 Hey Jack! We gonna miss you honey! Even with a cheeky grin Jack still manages to blush. He acknowledges the flirting but he keeps walking. In the background there is a last minute rush to get the Casino ready. CUT TO: ALMONDO, a large Italian man, aged about fifty, dressed in a finely tailored suit stands on the stage pointing to his workers. He sees Darth Vadar dashing across the casino. * * * * ALMONDO (Italian accent) Eh! Eh you! Darth Vadar! Darth Vadar turns to Almondo and points to himself in surprise. ALMONDO (CONT’D) Yeeeesss you! (sigh) Who else!? Come ‘ere. * Darth Vadar approaches Almondo. ALMONDO (CONT’D) You should be in suite 24 with Chewy, why are you here? Darth Vadar adjusts his voice box, the famous deep heavy breathing begins.....but.... DARTH VADAR (in an extremely high pitched, helium type voice) Problems with the voice box boss. CUT TO Jack laughs to himself and exits the Casino lounge making his way into the hotel corridors. 2. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY.1 Jack nods at a PORTER - SIMON, who is hurrying past him and then waves at a worried looking chef. A sign reading POD 7 beckons Jack forward. Finally he flings open a pair of doors..... * INT. EDEN PRIME / WORKER’S ROOM. DAY 1 - MOMENTS LATER ...on to a small party. His work crew have their bags packed and are polishing off a crate of beer. A loud cheer greets his entrance. SAM Jack! Where you been man? You’ve missed the party. Catch! Jack catches his beer and puts down his tool-box. As he makes his way to the lockers, Jack cracks open his beer and smiles. Cheers guys! JACK BERT, a large sweaty man, throws his arms excitedly around Jack, crushing him slightly. BERT We’re going home boss! JACK (noticing the sweat but not minding) Not before time Bert. Jack takes his suitcase from his locker and puts his toolbox inside. He closes the locker and exhausted, he slumps into a tatty arm chair. BERT You wanna lunar kahoonah burger Jack? But before Jack can answer.... BERT (CONT’D) I’ll go get you one. SAM makes his way through the revelry and sits next to Jack. SAM Listen man, I know it’s been a tough year, and hey, I ain’t been the easiest of.... * 3. JACK You’re an asshole Sam Bert returns and thrusts a burger into Jack’s hand. SAM (as though greatest compliment ever) So are you man! Sam and Jack shake hands and give each other a hug. BERT (handing Jack yet another Bud) Who’s meeting you back home Jack? JACK Well, providing he hasn’t ran of with some bitch, Tex might..... (on the guy’s looks) ....my Dog. BERT (impressed smirk) Yeah right boss....sure...I bet it’ll be any number of them there ladies? * * Bert indicates the locker with all the nude pin ups inside its door. JACK That’s not my locker Bert. Jack notices some of the men leaving. Taking a look at his watch he remembers that it is cracked and has stopped. JACK (CONT’D) What’s the damn time Sam? SAM (slapping Jack’s shoulder) It’s time to quit this bucket of bolts! But first Jack, me and the guys been meaning to ask you something for a while.... JACK I’m not explaining where babies come from AGAIN Sam.... Laughs. * 4. SAM I think we can all agree that you’ve been a great boss, treating every man as bad as the next, but....Jack.... (Sam looks around) * ALL What’s the damn time? Jack laughs.... JACK Funnily enough I don’t know... SAM Well you do now. Sam hands Jack a small gift box and inside Jack finds a wrist watch. * JACK (laughs) Great. That’s great guys. Jack reads the back. JACK (CONT’D) There’s no present like the time... Jack shakes hands with a few of the guys as they make their way out of the room. Sam and Bert grab their bags.... Jack? SAM (turning back) JACK Be with you in a minute. Sam hits the door goodbye and Jack is alone with his case. He kicks some party debris out of the way and approaches a window. EXT. EDEN PRIME. SPACE. DAY 1. As we pull back from the window and gradually lose focus on Jack and his lunar kahoonah burger, we see a large neon sign reading EDEN PRIME glowing against the night sky. As we pull out further we realise that Eden Prime is on THE MOON and Jack is looking out into SPACE. EXT. JACK’S POV INTO SPACE. DAY 1. We see planet Earth a beautiful vision of blue and white. * 5. EXT. EDEN PRIME / WORKER’S ROOM. DAY 1 Jack releases a deep sigh.... JACK I hate lunar kahoonah burgers. * EXT. JACK’S POV. DAY 1. Focus in on planet Earth again..... EXT. EARTH / LAUNCHING PAD. DAY 1 The world’s media and a huge crowd has gathered outside the launching site. A red carpet leading to the space shuttle has been rolled out and cordoned off from the media hype. A fleet of stretched limos are pulling up and are despatching their celebrity passengers. On his way up the red carpet is an important looking gentleman surrounded by various suited men, this is the Prime Minister of India. From out of a limo appears COOL JJ a flamboyant gangster rapper, there is a huge roar from the crowd. As Cool JJ struts up the red carpet he passes an older woman called BETTY. Betty is fussing about, desperately searching for something, but can barely see anything over the mountain of pearls around her neck. Another limo pulls up to the red carpet and a chauffeur opens the door. Out steps WILL, followed by his new wife TINA. Will throws his arms in the air, a big smile on his face. WILL Oh yeah baby! Daddy’s here!! Will has won his tickets through a huge lottery sponsored by the global dog food chain ‘CHUMPS’. Part of his prize means that whilst walking up the red carpet he has to wear clothing provided by CHUMPS. He wears a doggy Tshirt, doggy shorts and a baseball cap in the shape of a doggy. He puts his dark sun glasses on. Now he’s cool. Tina practically falls out of the stretched limo and is pulling her tiny mini skirt down over her butt cheeks. Will is trying to ignore her and soak up the atmosphere. TINA Eeeeeekkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!! (and then she grunts like a pig) * * * 6. WILL Oh man I knew I should have brought my mom, she ain’t half as busy as you. * Tina sees the space ship. TINA Eeeeeekkkkkk! (then the grunt) WILL (taking Tina to one side) What’s with the ‘squeal like a pig’ routine woman? Will smiles at the cameras. TINA (sarcastic) Mmmmmm??? Let me think on that one Will....Oh I got it. WE’RE GOING TO THE MOON! WILL Woman ain’t no pig that jumped over the moon. It was a cow. * * * TINA (suddenly nasty) Speak to me like that again and I’ll kick your sorry ass to the moon. WILL Whoa! That ain’t the lady I met last night! There is a woman making her way through the crowds calling Will’s name. It is WILL’S MOM. WILL’S MOM Will! Will Baby! Oh my Baby.... Will takes a deep breath. Oh no. WILL He makes his way to comfort his Mom in the crowd. WILL (CONT’D) Hey Mom. It’s OK, it’s cool. He goes to hug her, but instead she slaps him hard around the face. Hey! WILL (CONT’D) * 7. WILL’S MOM Is that her, is that the bitch you marry and give MY ticket to? Where you find her? Vegas. WILL (ashamed) WILL’S MOM And I find out on the TV..... WILL Sorry Mom......she was cute....last night. WILL’S MOM You are in big trouble when you get back home boy. I know. WILL Will sees Tina scream at a TV Crew.....and then the grunt. WILL (CONT’D) Believe me I wish it were you coming Mom. Will’s Mom starts to cry and drags him by the neck for a sloppy kiss farewell. A TV Crew has made its way to Will and a media scuffle ensues. CUT TO: POV OF TV CAMERA WITH WILL LIVE ON AIR: TV INTERVIEWER (OOV) How does it feel to be married Will? Will puts on a brave smile. WILL (sternly) Can I have another question please? Mom pops her head into shot. WILL’S MOM She’s a whore. TV INTERVIEWER Which company did you win this trip through Will? 8. Will stares at the TV INTERVIEWER for a moment, the hat’s doggy ears flapping in the wind, a Labrador on his Tshirt with the words “CHUMPS’ across it. WILL You are kidding me right? EXT. LAUNCHING PAD. PRESS STAND. DAY 1 SENATOR THOMPSON is taking questions at the mic. He points into the crowd of journalists. JOURNALIST 1 Senator Thompson, how much will the Government profit from the Eden Prime project? * Senator Thompson smiles uncomfortably.... SENATOR THOMPSON Again, I can only refer to the disclosure of the NASA 2025 Agreement. (he points to another journalist) Yes? JOURNALIST 2 Senator, will the sanctions against China be suspended with today’s pending peace agreement? * * * SENATOR THOMPSON (serious now) The President will be making a statement later today - all I can say is that negotiations are continuing and progress is being made. * JOURNALIST 2 Is it true that the SBL project has been initiated? * * * SENATOR THOMPSON * * JOURNALIST 1 But you can confirm that the Pentagon had information on a possible pre-emptive nuclear strike by China? * * * No comment. SENATOR THOMPSON No. No comment. (smiles) And now if you’ll excuse me I have to make my way to Ground Control. Enjoy your day people. * 9. Senator Thompson makes his way off stage. JOURNALIST 3 Senator are there any other commercial trips planned? When will the President make a statement on the alleged lunar energy experiments? * Senator Thompson scoffs at the remark on his way down from the stage. SENATOR THOMPSON (under his breath) When he finds Dilithium crystals up his ass. * * EXT. EDEN PRIME SHUTTLE. DAY 1. The last few people are boarding the shuttle as though an aeroplane. Later the shuttle will tilt vertically ready for take off. The doors begin to close. A cheer from the crowd. INT. EDEN PRIME SHUTTLE. DAY 1. MUSIC: FLY ME TO THE MOON is playing over the speakers. People are squeezing past each other, finding their seats. Will and Tina are making their way down the aisle. * * * WILL (looking at his ticket) Scuse me......squeeze me. This is us here. Will shuffles into the seats. Tina squeezes past a guy and reacts to Will sitting down. TINA I don’t think so....window seats are mine! Tina barges passed and Will sit’s down next to her. He turns to a man in a dark suit who is sitting alone, his name is SAUL. WILL Hey silent dude, how long is this flight? 12 hours. SAUL WILL (looking at Tina) Oh shit. * * 10. A young boy, JAMIE, peers over the seat in front of Will. Hey kid. WILL (CONT’D) JAMIE Dog food stinks. Jamie’s Dad, COLIN, leans back. COLIN Jamie! I’m sorry he don’t mean nothing by it. Will is confused, or offended? Then it sinks in, he quickly takes the doggy hat off. WILL No. I agree. CHUMPS just made me look like a fool in front of the entire world. TINA (looking out the window) The moon ain’t really made o’ cheese is it? WILL (looking at Tina) Oh no. I am a fool. Jamie sits back down next to Colin, away from the arguing. JAMIE Dad I need to pee. COLIN No you don’t. We move further down the aisle over the seats acquainting ourselves with the passengers. In the next seat is COOL JJ, who is still wearing his shades and is listening to his head phones. Next to him sits Betty, she taps COOL JJ on the hand. BETTY (joking) A lot of men huh.....? A couple of men walk past. BETTY (CONT’D) You think there’s something we don’t know about this hotel? Cool JJ suddenly considers this and looks over at CHARLIE, a guy in a pink Hawaiian shirt. * * * * * 11. CHARLIE smiles at Cool JJ. Cool JJ gives Charlie a mean stare back, Charlie doesn’t understand why. * * A Russian man VLAD is talking loudly to JANE the woman next to him. * * VLAD (strong accent) And he tells me that mens’ ears never stop growing!!!!! JANE (politely laughing) Oh yeah, really. Excuse me. JANE approaches a STEWARDESS. JANE (CONT’D) Is there any way I can move seats. STEWARDESS I’m sorry Madam Jane looks at Vlad. * JANE (desperately trying to impress) I’m PRESS....I’m covering this trip for TIME. STEWARDESS (pointing) And that’s the King Of Spain, that’s the Sultan of Kahlim and that’s the Prime Minister of India.... * * * Jane goes back to her seat defeated. All the passengers are seated, about thirty in all. Everyone’s ears prick up when an announcement is made over the speakers. STEWARDESS (CONT’D) Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome on board Eden Prime shuttle. We will shortly be leaving earth, our destination is the moon. (small cheer) Blast off will be in fifteen minutes. A member of staff will assist you with your life support, harness and condiments. Will examines a sachet of tomato sauce. STEWARDESS (CONT’D) On behalf of all the flight crew working for Eden Prime, we would like to wish you a pleasant journey. * * * * 12. Will smiles. WILL (absolutely chuffed) Mrs McManary was SO wrong! I knew I’d be an astronaut when I grew up... * INT. GROUND CONTROL. DAY 1. A man is his early forties called HARRY, stands nervously in front of a multitude of computers and TV screens monitoring the space shuttle. HARRY Alright people, it’s that time again, Senator Thompson is on his way, so try and look like you know what you’re doing please. Tim, stats on Atreus? * A young man called TIM turns from his screen to Harry. TIM Atreus will be ready for lunar departure in ten minutes Sir. * HARRY Ok, good. That’s good....one in, one out.... TIM (to himself) ....and shake it all about HARRY Not funny. Listen up! Take your seats. I want a full scan on system 11 and 12. Give me the Eden Prime shuttle on 2. A huge screen showing the passengers on Eden Prime shuttle appears, at the moment it shows Will who has his mask and harness on. SENATOR THOMPSON approaches HARRY. SENATOR THOMPSON All’s well Harry? HARRY It’s blue skies Senator. (to his staff) Prepare for Countdown. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 The work crew are making their way to ATREUS, Jack catches up with them. * 13. BERT (eating burger) You know the first thing I’m going to do when I get off this ship? JACK Bert, I hope the first thing you do when you get back is go on a crash diet. BERT (cringe) Don’t say that word. SAM What? Diet... BERT Funny. Anyways like I said, the first thing I’m gonna do is give my mom a bunch of flowers. I’ve really missed flowers, you know? * Sam and Jack laugh at Bert. INT. GROUND CONTROL. DAY 1. HARRY is watching the huge monitors above him. Most show different angles of the shuttle which has now been tilted vertically. A couple of the screens show the passengers and flight crew on the Eden Prime Shuttle. A computer’s voice has begun countdown. COMPUTER 1 minute and 17 seconds HARRY (to himself) Alright then let’s send these people into space. The shuttle’s engines get louder. CUT TO: WILL’S FACE BEGINS TO WOBBLE AND LOOKS INCREDIBLY WORRIED. COOL JJ REACHES OUT IN FEAR FOR BETTY’S HAND. JAMIE IS ALREADY HOLDING HIS DADDY’S HAND. SAUL IS LOOKING QUITE CALM. CUT TO: * * * 14. OUTSIDE THE CROWD CHEERS AS THEY WATCH THE SHUTTLE IN THE DISTANCE. COMPUTER 10.....9.......8.......7........ THE CROWD JOINS IN..... CUT TO: GROUND CONTROL STAFF WATCH THE MONITORS AND ALL LOOK AS THOUGH THEY ARE HOLDING THEIR BREATH. COMPUTER 4....3.....2....BLAST OFF. A HUGE SURGE OF ENERGY AND...... WILL AND TINA ARE SHAKING WITH THE SHUTTLE’S VIBRATIONS AND LOOK PETRIFIED. THEIR EYES WIDE OPEN. JAMIE HAS A BIG SMILE ON HIS FACE. BETTY HAS HER EYES FIRMLY CLOSED. JANE JUST LOOKS NERVOUS, WHILST VLAD IS SOBBING LIKE A BABY. EXT. LAUNCHING PAD. DAY 1 THE EDEN PRIME SHUTTLE BLASTS OFF INTO SPACE. INT. GROUND CONTROL. DAY 1. HARRY breathes, everyone else applauds the outcome. HARRY Bon Voyage people. OK stats on Atreus ....Tim? * * EXT. EARTH / LAUNCHING PAD. DAY 1 The Eden Prime shuttle has blasted into space. INT. EDEN PRIME. LAUNCHING / LANDING AREA. Jack, Sam and Bert turn a corner and are in sight of Atreus’s boarding area. SUDDENLY..... An ALARM sounds, it is deafening. The men all react, they strain to hear each other over the noise. * 15. SAM (covering his ears) What the hell? JACK (not completely surprised) I’ll go look. Jack takes off a wall panel and opens a technician’s box. BERT What do we do Jack? In the background Jack’s working on a small computer. SAM Hey! I ain’t staying here for nothing! Our contract is up. BERT But the alarm! SAM (walking away and shouting back) What alarm?!! INT. GROUND CONTROL. DAY 1. An alarm goes off at ground control and people dash over to the communications desk where Joe is sitting. * HARRY Joe! What gives? JOE Problem with Eden Prime’s Sputnik link. HARRY (expected and frustrated) Dammit. What time do they upgrade to the X-COM? JOE Not for another three hours. Harry sees Senator Thompson’s nervous reaction. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Jack is still on the computer. Bert hovers impatiently. Jack waves him away. * * 16. JACK I can deal with this Bert! You go! It’s a fault in the Communications room. BERT Jack! You haven’t got the time! JACK I’ll make it! You go! Bert runs off to catch his flight. Jack slams the wall panel shut and drops his suitcase, he begins to run down the corridor. INT. EDEN PRIME / WORKER’S ROOM. DAY 1 ....where he quickly types in the code for his locker and collects his tool box, angrily slamming the locker door shut. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Jack heads for POD 9. He is a fast runner, but the sound of his running is drowned out by the ALARM. INT. EDEN PRIME / SPACE SHUTTLE LAUNCH SITE. DAY 1 Bert catches up with the other men, who are boarding Atreus. * SAM Where the hell’s Jack? BERT Pod 9, it sounds like the Sputnik link. * SAM He ain’t got time for this shit! Our job is done here, he should leave it to the next crew. Damn him. The men get out of the noise and into the shuttle. INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. Many of the work crew have already buckled up. SAM Oh man! He’s got my Walkman! * 17. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Jack slams into a Pod door, the sign above it reads POD 9. Quickly he enters a code, the door opens and Jack dashes through into it. * * INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. Cabin crew begin to engage in safety measures, checking that all passenger’s medical scanners are on and harnesses are in place. STEWARDESS (to Sam and Bert) Gentlemen please take your seats. The work crew whistle and cheer at the attractive stewardess. Sam looks at Jack’s empty seat. SAM No way lady, you have to wait, our boss ain’t here. STEWARDESS (stern) This is not a Greyhound Sir, this is a space ship and it waits for no one. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Jack is running straight towards us on a collision course with Almondo. MOVE! JACK A shocked Almondo dives out of the way. Jack has made it to the Communication Room entrance and begins to type in the entrance code....HE STOPS.....he has forgotten the rest of it...... Shit. JACK (CONT’D) He remembers and the door opens onto THE COMMUNICATIONS ROOM. INT. COMMUNICATIONS ROOM. DAY 1. Jack throws himself into a room void of humans, only a vast sea of computers, Almondo peeps over his shoulder. * * 18. ALMONDO You can fix it right? INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. Sam and Bert are now buckling themselves into their seats. SAM You know what this means don’t you? BERT Tex is going to be alone for Holidays? SAM (pissed) No. I have to listen to you for the rest of the flight. CAPTAIN (over speaker) Five minutes until departure. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Jack throws himself at a wall panel which he quickly removes. In seconds he evaluates the problem and opens his tool-box and grabs himself a tool. Jack begins to unbolt the computer hatch. Almondo appears. ALMONDO What’s going on? What’s happening? 33 JACK (whilst working) It looks like we have a problem with the Sputnik link. But no surprise there. * ALMONDO Can you fix it? * JACK I should do, I helped connect it. (tinkering with the circuitry he sighs) The Russians dumped this satellite in 1974 Al. ALMONDO That’s why we’re upgrading Jack. JACK Yeah well not before long, this thing belongs in a home. 33 * * * 19. THE ALARM STOPS. Jack looks up at Al. INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. The shuttle’s engines are getting louder and the stewardess is making her way towards the doors. Sam blocks her path. SAM Look lady buy him some time okay, just a couple more minutes. THE ALARM STOPS. The Stewardess looks surprised at the SILENCE. SAM (CONT’D) (pleading) Come on....he’s fixed it...he’s on his way back.... STEWARDESS One minute, or we burn on re-entry. BERT (panic!) Oh yeah we should leave! SAM (panic!) One minute and we’re outta here. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 JACK is already on his way back and is running faster than he has in his whole life. His tool box is gone and so is his jacket. INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. The STEWARDESS is standing at the shuttle doors, waiting. She looks back at Sam and Bert but looks unconvinced. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Now we are following JACK as he dashes through the final corridor, we can hear the shuttle’s engines. INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. CAPTAIN Doors 5 and 6 close. 89% engine capability. Crew take position please. (MORE) 20. CAPTAIN (CONT'D) I'd like to welcome all passengers to Atreus, destination Earth and Pegasus 9 where we shall be refuelling at approximately 1700 Earth Time. * * The Stewardess looks at Bert and Sam and shakes her head, she presses the door’s activation button, and the doors begin to close. BERT (seeing Jack) There he is!!!! A loud cheer sounds from the work crew. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Jack sees the space shuttle DOORS CLOSING. Wait! JACK INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. Jack is running towards the closing doors, his image is gradually disappearing. Wait! JACK The doors close. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Jack is feet away from the doors, but all is lost. Jack stands defeated. INT. GROUND CONTROL. DAY 1. The alarm has stopped and Harry smiles at Senator Thompson. JOE Communications have been restored with Eden Prime. SENATOR THOMPSON (concerned) Do we have a hitch Harry? * 21. Harry keeps his mouth shut, tries not to make eye contact with the Senator, he just keeps on looking at the huge screen ahead of him. Whilst he is shaking his head to the negative, his whole body is screaming ‘YES!’. HARRY (changing the subject) The guy that built this hotel makes lunar kahoonah burgers you know? * * SENATOR THOMPSON (genuinely impressed) Yeah? I did not know that... HARRY Yeah......yeah..... SENATOR THOMPSON God I hate those things..... * * We leave Harry to his job and for now, the hussle and bussle of Ground Control. INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. The shuttle’s engines are at full power and the noise is deafening. All the passengers are harnessed to their seats and life supports are intact. They are leaving the moon’s orbit. The engines suddenly quieten. CAPTAIN Passengers may remove their masks we have cleared Moon’s orbit. Bert looks out of his window, down at the moon’s surface. Bye Jack. BERT Sam is trying to borrow a mates Walkman. * BERT (CONT’D) Hey what’s that. CUT TO: SHOT OF A BUILDING ON THE MOON’S SURFACE. BERT I didn’t see that on the way up? That ain’t Eden Prime, hey Sam, Sam....? Sam puts some earphones to his head and smiling to himself he relaxes into his chair. 22. Home. SAM EXT. SPACE SHUTTLE 4. DAY 1. Atreus makes its way to Pegasus 9. * INT. EDEN PRIME. DAY 1 Jack stands helpless at the window watching his flight move out into space. INT. MOON LAB. DAY 1. A sign on a door reads TOP SECURITY - LEVEL 2 ONLY. A man in a lab tech’s coat has his eye scanned and enters the lab, we follow him. He leads us to a couple of scientists sitting at a computer. One of these men is called JUDE, he is in his mid twenties with cliche ‘mad scientist’ glasses and hair. He leans over the scientist at the desk. * * JUDE Ok, so take the Juno sample and apply it to the 72 results. What time is it? SCIENTIST 1 2.30. The door lets him in and we see that this scientist’s name is JUDE BARCLAY. * * * * 23. INT. MOON LAB. KEY ROOM. DAY 1 The door closes and Jude releases a sigh of relief. Jude is alone and looks very nervous, he checks his watch, his hands are shaking. He walks towards a wall and places his palm on what seems a none specific area. In 1972 the United States purchased the patent on Saul's MASER - and in association with the rest of the World's superpowers initiated the Lunar Energy Programme. He begins to crow bar a bolt away from the stem of the dish. The bolt floats out into space. Inside the stem there is a digital display. INT. COMMUNICATIONS ROOM. Jane rests her head against a locker in despair. * * * * INT. EDEN PRIME. COSTUME & PROPS ROOM Inside the MAGIC AREA, a noise comes from within the MAGICIAN’S DISAPPEARANCE BOX. It sounds like groaning. As we get nearer we can tell that Alex is waking up. The box begins to sway a little as he bangs violently from the inside. The groans of pain turn into yells of frustration as Alex begins to thrash about inside the box. The box seems to be kicked hard when SUDDENLY the top of the box flings open and Alex is catapulted out. He flies through the air and lands in front of the box on the floor. ALEX So that’s how they do it. * * * INT. EDEN PRIME. MOON EXIT. Will and Jack are standing with their space suits on. They are looking ahead silently and anxiously. The doors open and a bright light pours down onto their faces. * * * As we move further and further out into space, Will and Jack become two tiny figures set against a landscape of moon rock. Ahead of them is a GIANT CHASM that they are going to have to cross to get to the LAB opposite. * * * * UH OH. WILL (very frightened) * * * 126. INT. EDEN PRIME / CORRIDOR. DAY 1 Alex is making his way to the doors of the casino. He looks at his watch, he looks concerned but his expression worsens as he hears the noise of the crowd ahead. * INT. EDEN PRIME /CASINO STAGE. DAY 1 Lee and Pret stand on the stage, they look nervous as the crowd are getting more and more aggressive. Lee points his gun at them. Alex looks through the door and sees that Lee and Pret are losing control. Alex turns away and quickly heads down the corridor * * * * * INT. MOON CORRIDOR. * Jack and Will make their way to the moon buggies parked nearby. * * WILL (radio voice) You’ve driven one of these haven’t you man. Sure On the moon. He looks ahead and sees the lab that he has to reach - but before it is the giant abyss. Will looks ahead at the edge of the chasm getting closer and closer. (Will looks ahead) Do you want me to get out whilst it’s moving, is that what you want? * * * * * * The buggy’s wheels are going as fast as they can. The DANGER ALERT is flashing. The cliff edge is approaching very quickly. JACK Hold on tight. * * * * * Jack raises his hand for Will to grab onto. * JACK (CONT’D) Let’s do this!!! * * The buggy is feet away from the crevice. Will grabs onto Jack’s hand. WILL Wel this is gay. * * * * THE BUGGIE FLIES OVER THE EDGE OF THE CHASM. * JACK * * WILL * * Unlike on Earth the buggy does not drop so soon, it carries on drifting. Will looks back down and sees that they have cleared the chasm. The guys look at each other and smile. * * 130. WILL (CONT’D) Oh man that was incredible. We did it! * * Jack is laughing. * JACK We sure did.... * * WILL * * Alright! The two guys celebrate. * JACK (deadpan) We’re still going though. Will looks ahead and sees the Lab straight ahead The buggy smashes into it and then begins to fly again TOWARDS THE CHASM with Will and Jack still This time though the buggy is going to fall into OH SHIT! * * * of them. back in it. it. WILL * * * * * * JACK We got to get out. * * WILL Sounds about right. * * Jump! JACK * * The two men jump and Will floats to the moon’s surface....BUT JACK’S FOOT IS STUCK. The moon buggy is now on its side and dragging Jack across the bumpy surface. Jack struggles to free himself as the buggy gets closer to the cliff edge. He hammers with his other foot at the piece of metal that has caught him. * * * * * * The crater is feet away, the buggy is fast approaching it. Jack summons all his strength in a final attempt to free himself. Will holds his breath as he watches Jack hammer one last time. And at last Jack is free - the buggy disappearing over the crater’s edge. Jack rolls over and watches the last of the buggy go out of view. * * * * * * WILL (to himself) Bye Chitty....we love you. INT. COMMUNICATIONS ROOM. DAY 1. Jane stands with the space suit on. Tina is helping her make the final adjustments. * * * 131. JANE Remember, you see that red light and you press the blue one straight off.... TINA Honey I ain’t the one with the problems here. You must be crazy to do this. JANE Don’t have a choice do I. I can do this.... if I time it right on the way in I can conserve enough air time....I know I can. TINA (finishes dressing Jane) Is that it? You written the coordinates right? Jane looks down at her arm and looks at the satellite coordinates she has written on the suit JANE (looks at suit) Yeah...I think.....Jesus.... OK TINA * JANE OK....I’m ready.... Jane walks over to the ladder and begins her ascent to the air lock. Tina makes her way over to the computer as she watches Jane leave. Jane enters the air lock and closes the hatch. Tina watches her and holds her breath, making her look like a fish. * * INT. AIR LOCK. Jane sits back and the automatic clock begins, the time counting back from 01.00. Jane leaves her visor open but as she starts to gasp for air she finally has to shut the visor. She turns the oxygen supply ON and takes a deep breath, then another one, then turns OFF her oxygen supply. She watches the clock....00.20....00.19......Jane’s eyes close.... * * * * * INT. EDEN PRIME /CASINO STAGE. DAY 1 * Lee and Pret are standing on stage, their guns aimed at the guests and staff, who are now sitting on the floor. * * Colin, Cool JJ and Charlie have shuffled together. * 132. COLIN (whispering) We got to do something. * * * CHARLIE Yeah, like there’s only two of them. * * COOL JJ Two of them with guns. * * CHARLIE Come on man, I’ve heard your songs. DAY 1. * Tina stands at the computer desk and looks up at the hatch. INT. AIR LOCK. Jane looks at the clock it reads 00.09.......she again looks at her oxygen supply and takes a deep breath, then she turns it off. * * 133. EXT. MOON SURFACE. A hatch door opens and Jane sticks her head out. She looks over at the satellite dishes and hoists herself out. As she does she floats a little - she is moon walking. JANE (muffled through helmet, excited) Oh my God....oh my God....oh my God.... Jane bounces over to the satellite dish and finds the control panel with the digital display. Jane begins to move the dish back to its original position and the numbers begin to change. * INT. COMMUNICATIONS ROOM. DAY 1. * Inside, Tina waits nervously at the desk. * EXT. MOON SURFACE. * Jane is carefully moving the satellite dish round. The numbers are changing on the display and Jane checks the co ordinates written on her suit. They are nearly the same. Starting to sweat Jane begins to gasp for air. She looks at her oxygen levels and sees that they are empty. Jane pushes the satellite just a few inches more and the co-ordinates finally match. * * * * * * * JANE (breathless) Come on.....you can do this.... * * * * INT. COMMUNICATIONS ROOM. DAY 1. * Tina sees the RED LIGHT and immediately presses the blue light. The screen displays the message: PROCESSING LINK. * * Tina smiles but then looks up at the hatch. * TINA Get down from there girl. * * INT. SPACE SHUTTLE 5. * ALEX drags the Prime Minister into the shuttle and sits at the controls. As he starts to operate the shuttle controls he talks into his radio headset. * * * 134. ALEX Saul,there are two girls with radios on their way to communicate with Earth. Jack’s going to tell them if they deactivate the Maser. We don’t have enough time to stop them. I’m in the shuttle. I’m leaving Saul, it’s over. If you want to get out of this alive.... * * * * * * * * CUT TO: SAUL MAKING HIS WAY THROUGH THE DESTROYED UNDERGROUND RAIL LINK ON FOOT. Silently Cool JJ points to a ladder leading to the lights far above the stage. Charlie is at the top of the lighting rig and is nervously making his way across, trying not to make a noise. * * * COLIN Sure, but I, we, just want a peaceful end to this. Meanwhile Pret is trying to avoid the crashing lights and exploding glass around him, as he shoots aimlessly at the curtain. The female hostage runs for her life, Saul throws the gun to the ground and walks away from Jack and Will. In a crazed happiness, Saul waves his other gun around at the scientists. * * * * SAUL (CONT’D) Thus we play the fools with time; and the spirits of the wise sit in the clouds and mock us! Jane watches the clock on the wall which reads 000.20. She crawls on all fours to the hatch opening as she finally loses consciousness. * * * INT. LAB. Jane! TINA * Tina can see Jane’s arm and she pushes with all her strength. Finally Tina manages to get the hatch door open and she finds Jane lifeless. Oh God no. TINA (CONT’D) INT. GROUND CONTROL. DAY 1. Harry looks at Joe. HARRY Who the hell was that? INT. AIR LOCK. Jane takes off Jane’s helmet, Jane is pale and still. Tina starts to cry. TINA Oh God Jane don’t die honey. Tina tries to resuscitate Jane and breaths into her mouth. She checks for a pulse, but there is nothing. TINA (CONT’D) Jane! Jane! Wake up. In the background Harry voice is screaming questions. INT. GROUND CONTROL. DAY 1. Joe approaches harry JOE. They’re on the Sputnik link again, we’ve got one minute left of communication time. * * 144. SENATOR THOMPSON The SBL is going to fire in 50 seconds. * * HARRY Then delay it. * * SENATOR THOMPSON Not unless I know that MASER’S deactivated. * * * INT. LAB. COMMUNICATIONS ROOM Will and Jack are frantically looking for batteries. They are combing each desk. All the scientist are looking in drawers and lockers. Suddenly a woman standing over at her locker screams at the top of her voice. * WOMAN I GOT SOME!!!!!! Will and Jack look over to the woman who is smiling and waving a birthday present around in the air. Jack grabs the present and starts to tear it open. Inside is a toy monkey with symbols in his hands, it drops to the floor and begins to clash the symbols. Jack picks it up and frantically fumbles with it to retrieve the batteries, but he cannot open it. Shit. JACK The monkey keeps clashing and Jack keeps looking for the batteries. Gimme that. WILL Will grabs the monkey and throws it to the floor and stamps on it, the batteries fly out. Everyone looks at Will disapprovingly. Oh come on! WILL (CONT’D) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * INT. AIR LOCK. Tina breathes into Jane’s mouth and presses down onto Jane’s chest. She breathes again into Jane’s mouth, and then just collapses onto Jane’s chest. You wait, you give these people a chance. * * CUT TO: 146. COMMUNICATIONS ROOM. Tina dives toward the desk. She hears the radio... CUT TO: LAB. COMMUNICATIONS ROOM JACK (into radio) Tina do you hear me, we deactivated the MASER, the key is destroyed. Saul is dead. * * CUT TO: COMMUNICATIONS ROOM. Tina dives at the desk and shouts into the microphone. TINA Did you hear that Earth? The MASER is deactivated. Repeat we did it!!!!! We did it we did it!!!!! Saul is dead! * * The line suddenly goes dead. CUT TO: GROUND CONTROL. DAY 1. The whole of Ground Control is in uproar celebrating. Harry slumps back into his chair. Senator Thompson is smiling down the phone. SENATOR THOMPSON The SBL is terminated. The Senator places his mobile on the desk and smiles. * * * * * HARRY OK Joe, inform everyone will you. JOE. Sure will boss. * HARRY And have a negotiation team ready to greet whoever is on that shuttle when it gets in. * * * * 147. Harry begins to shuffle his papers on his desk and tidies a little. He takes his glasses off and places them in their case. I’m hungry What? HARRY (CONT’D) * * SENATOR THOMPSON * * HARRY I’m hungry. You fancy a burger or something. Sure * * * * * * SENATOR THOMPSON * * The two men leave Ground Control together. They give Ged a wave, as they walk away we overhear them speak, their voices becoming distant. HARRY Not a kahooner obviously * * * * * SENATOR THOMPSON * * HARRY (sigh) Some day hey? * * * * SENATOR THOMPSON My wife’ll never believe it.... * * HARRY They never do.....once, when I told Cheryl about that UFO thing last month, she accused me of having an affair. * * * * Obviously. Sure. CUT TO: * MUSIC & MONTAGE Jack and Will can finally relax and they shake hands, then give each other a well deserved hug. Tina and Jane are dancing on the spot celebrating. Jack and Will have slumped onto the floor and are happily exhausted, laughing at the broken monkey. * * Jane and Tina are holding each other and laughing. * Saul lies dead against a video screen showing his beloved MASER. * 148. Jane and Tina have made their way to the casino where the guests are now celebrating. Jamie is on the back of his Daddy’s shoulders. Betty and Cool JJ dance together, whilst Charlie tucks a gun into his belt and tries to look mean. Outside on the moon the pink neon sign for EDEN PRIME flickers a little. As we drift off into space, far into the stars the moon becomes smaller and smaller until finally it begins to look like the moon we know and love viewed from Earth. * * * WE PAN OVER TO....... Jack and Jane kissing. We are back on Earth and Jack and Jane have just been married. Confetti and fairy lights fill the night air and the wedding guests begin to applaud. Will and Tina who are best man and Matron of Honour stand either side.
