The Crayon Box - Prime Time Children`s Center

The Crayon Box
Welcome to the Crayon Box. In this room the children are 3 to 5 years of age. We
follow a schedule posted by our door including a variety of small group, large group as
well as, indoor and outdoor play. That includes circle time, journaling literacy groups,
center time and free play, indoors and outdoors.
We keep portfolios on each child in our care. These portfolios are a collection of
the work the children do each month, photographs we take and notes about their
growth and development. When a child leaves our classroom their portfolio follows
them and remains part of our program until they leave us, which is often 15 years of
age.
Art work and photographs are displayed around the room and are taken down
monthly and sent home in “take home bags” to share with the Parents. We then ask
them to return one piece if art work for their child’s portfolio along with a comment
sheet where open ended questions are asked and openly commented on.
A monthly Calendar is placed on the mirror outside of our classroom that shows
themes and activities. Inside our classroom by our door, is a detailed schedule for
parents to review. A calendar is also placed monthly in their take home bags.
For evaluation purposes we use developmental checklist for school-age children
but have adapted it to a check list for us to complete at different intervals of the child’s
growth.
Art work and photographs are displayed in various places in the lobby including
the mirrors and picture frames lining the lobby walls, as well as in the rec room.
We use multiple tools to communicate with parents; such as, ‘Life Cubby’ and
bulletin boards. For more information on how we keep communication strong with
parents please click on communication with parents to find out more.
In the Crayon Box we use ‘Handwriting without Tears’ as part of our curriculum
and ‘The Investigators Club’. This aids in the preparation for school. We simply adapt for
each age group as needed to be developmentally appropriate.
The Explorers
Welcome to the Explorers. In this room kindergarten children ages 5 to 6
are cared for before and after school; we put them on the bus each morning and
welcome them back each afternoon when school is done. We also take care of
any needs they might have while at school, such as we have extra clothes in case
of an accident. Also we will pick up any child if a bus is missed. We also provide
care for them when school is not in session and over the summer. All the children
in our group get to go on field trips, and participate in fun themed activities
during our summer program. For more information regarding our program please
click on our summer program tab.

We use ‘Spark’ as part as our curriculum for school-age children. This
program is an after school program for ages 5 to 14 and is centered on physical
activity and promoting wellness. We simply adapt for each age group as needed
to be developmentally appropriate. For more information regarding school age
curriculum please click the curriculum tab.
