THANK YOU!

The Haven is grateful to have the help and support of many volunteers
who go to great lengths to ensure that our residents have all they need
to get a fresh start in life. From providing food and clothing, to offering
hope and support, to property management and hands-on help, our
volunteers truly do it all! Thank you for helping make our home a
Haven for women and children. For volunteer opportunities, call Maria
at 847-680-1870. We hope to see you soon!

The Lake County Haven empowers homeless women and their children
to achieve permanent, independent living.
The Lake County Haven provides
food, safety, shelter, counseling, and
life-skills training to women and
children who are trying to find a path
out of homelessness. Each and every
day, our residents work to rebuild
their lives. For many, it is a constant,
uphill struggle. Here is...
One Woman’s Journey.
We’re
Celebrating!
CHERYL
We hope you'll join us in
celebrating a very
important milestone for
Lake County Haven.
A Bump in the Road
This May we will celebrate
the 25th anniversary of the
day we opened our doors!
We are honored to be able to
do this important work.
In the months leading up to
the big day, we will be
rejoicing in the good work
that has been done...thanks
to your support!
For more than half of her 32 years,
Cheryl has struggled with alcoholism.
For seventeen years, the only solace
she could find came to her while
drinking. She struggled to feel
“normal” and to make good choices:
“each decision I made seemed to pull
me down lower and lower to the point
that I felt hopeless and alone.”
Stopping for Directions
Earlier this year, Cheryl achieved
sobriety with the help of 12-Step
meetings. But it wasn’t until she was
accepted at the Lake County Haven
that she felt she had achieved
recovery, sanity, and safety. At the
Haven, Cheryl has realized that her
recovery from addiction and
homelessness is an ongoing process of
hard work and self-management.
“The group atmosphere and
camaraderie I experience at the Haven
is like no other. The sessions provided
in the house have impacted me in
such positive ways that I am now able
to hold a job that I enjoy, attend
college part-time, and communicate
effectively with my peers.”
The Road Ahead
Cheryl knows that she still has much
work to do in order to become
independent. But thanks to the skills
she has been practicing in the Haven’s
Day Program, for the first time in a
long time, she has a bright outlook on
her future. “I look forward to each and
every day as an opportunity to share
my experience, strength, and hope
with others, that they might find the
peace I have found through the Lake
County Haven.”
Yes! I want to give women and children the hope, guidance, and support they need to get a second chance in life.

Thank you to all of our friends and neighbors who have helped the homeless
women and children in our community find a place to call “home” this past
year. Because of your generosity, each of them received not only the basic
necessities of life, but also:

Case Management and Life-Skills Training to help them learn the skills
they need to live independently.

Counseling and support to help them heal from the trauma they
experienced while living on the streets.
