SUMMER CAMP 2017
SUMMER DAY CAMP & SPECIALTY CAMPS
EDWARDSVILLE YMCA
DEAR PARENTS,
As you watch your children run around the yard, outfitted in their
hand made superhero cape, you wish for them to keep dreaming big
throughout their life. You know your child has a superhero within
them. At the YMCA, our goal is to help your child find the hero within
by learning new skills and creating lasting friendships (every superhero
needs allies).
At the YMCA Summer Day Camp, your child will have the opportunity to
climb the highest mountain by first mastering our indoor rock wall, swim
the deepest seas by first gaining water skills in our outdoor pool, and
explore new lands with our weekly age appropriate field trips. They will
learn the value of teamwork within their groups as they play games in
the gym and the skate center floor. Finally, they will foster friendships
that will cross over into their school years and daily lives.
You might be seeking out ways for your child to find their own path,
and with our Speciality Camps, you can do just that. Your child can have
the opportunity to participate in camps from the Arts and Humanities,
Rec. Sports, Gymnastics, Tennis, Aquatics, Climbing and Fitness
Departments. If you’re a working parent and need the Summer Day
Camp but still want your child to have the opportunity to participate in
the Specialty Camps, we can help make that happen. Simply fill out the
registration forms carefully and let our staff know the week of your
child’s Specialty Camp so we can help your child experience the camp
day that is right for them.
We look forward to a summer to remember in 2017, helping all of our
campers to FIND THE HERO WITHIN at the Edwardsville YMCA Summer
Camp.
Sincerely,
Jamie Kupferer

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
PARENTS TRUST US
YMCA Day Camps provide a happy, healthy
environment for children to learn & grow.
Children have the opportunity to build selfconfidence, independence & creativity.
Parents have peace of mind knowing their
children are in a safe & enriching place.
CAMP GROUPS
We know how important your children are
to you, and they are also very important to
us. Therefore we will be dividing each grade
level into three groups with a counselor /
camper ratio of 10 to 1. This gives us the
ability to provide more individual attention
to your camper(s).
STAFF
Friendly and familiar faces are prepared to
welcome your children as we have many
staff members returning this year from last
summer, and we will be adding some new
energy to the group with new counselors
as well. Our lead counselors, and the
majority of our summer camp counselors,
have completed a minimum of one year of
college with a required number of credit
hours in child development and recreation.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
WHEN CAN I REGISTER?
There’s something about summer camp memories
that stick with us forever. The friendships we make,
the skills we learn, and the confidence we build last
long after the summer ends. The Edwardsville YMCA
Summer Day Camps have provided thousands of
children in our community with a camp experience
they never forget. Our camps offer a variety of
experiences for children of all ages and abilities,
with each camp offering safe and supervised fun
provided by a caring, responsible staff. Each child
gains something different at camp: making new
friends, learning how to swim, self-confidence,
independence, and leadership—skills that last far
beyond camp.
Whether it’s your child’s first camp experience
through our traditional Summer Day Camp, one
of our action-packed Summer Specialty Camps or
Teen Adventure Camp, each of our camps provide
an environment where campers are encouraged to
grow, have fun, and make those memories that will
last a lifetime.

can only attend the number of days approved by

Avoid those long lines on Monday mornings with our
convenient bank/debit/credit card draft pay option. Bring a
voided check and fill out a draft agreement form when you
register and pay your deposit. The remaining fee will be
deducted directly from your checking or credit/debit card
account on the Monday of each week reserved.
WITHDRAWL SCHEDULE: All fees are withdrawn the
Monday of the Week your camper attends. Any changes
to ACH/Checking withdraw must be received at the Meyer
Center no later than close on the Wednesday evening
prior to the week the draft would occur (the week already
reserved). If using a credit or debt card, any changes to
automatic tuition charges to the credit card on file must
occur by 8:00AM on the Monday of the reserved week.
Please keep your card and bank information on file up to
date. Late fees may apply for insufficient funds or declined
credit/debt cards. ANY ADDITIONAL WEEKS ADDED
AFTER INITIAL REGISTRATION MUST BE PAID BY CASH,
CREDIT/DEBIT CARD OR CHECK AT TIME OF ADDITION. IF
YOU ADD MORE THAN ONE WEEK, THOSE WEEKS MUST
BE PAID IN FULL AS WELL.
ONLINE PAYMENTS
Members who have made a deposit for a week of camps
may use www.edwardsvilleymca.com to pay the remaining
balance on that week. Remember that all fees must be paid
on the Monday of the week attending to avoid a late fee.
Lunch tickets can be added at the Camp Desk during
normal camp hours if payment is cash or check. The
main service desk accepts cash, check and credit cards
during normal business hours.
KEEP IN MIND...
FORFEITURE OF DEPOSIT
If you make a deposit on a week and you do not attend, your
deposit will be forfeited. It will not be returned nor will it
be applied to another week without a change form. Change
forms are available at either service desk. The change form
has to be submitted on the Friday prior to the week you are
requesting to change. There is a $5 fee per change form
submitted.
LATE PAYMENT CHARGE
A $10 late fee will be charged if full payment is not
received on the first day of the week your camper
attends.
KEEP PAYMENTS UP TO DATE
Campers with an outstanding balance from previous weeks
will not be able to sign-up or attend camp. In order to stay
current, all fees need to be paid no later than the Friday of
the week they are due.
LATE PICK-UP FEES
Summer camp closes at 6:00PM. Each child not picked up by
that time will be assessed a $1 per minute late fee. Please be
on time, as no exceptions will be made.
WEEKEND BEFORE OR DAY OF REGISTRATION
If you register for Summer Camp & Specialty Camp(s) the
weekend before or day of camp, please inform the desk upon
drop-off, present your receipt in order to avoid your child
missing their registered Specialty Camp.
WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW
AGE & GRADE REQUIREMENTS
FIELD TRIPS
Campers must be a minimum age of 5 AND be exiting
Kindergarten, while Teens must be no older than 14 AND
exiting 8TH grade (entering Freshman year). All campers
must be potty trained and be able to change into and out
of their swim wear independently.
This years field trips will be divided into three groups: K
& 1ST, 2ND & 3RD and 4TH & 5TH grades. Most of the field
trips are scheduled on Fridays. Extra information will be
available a day or two ahead of the field trip concerning
departure times and changes in the daily schedule.
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL TIMES
CAMP ATTIRE
Camp opens at 6:15AM each day. Campers may arrive any
time after 6:15AM. A parent or guardian must accompany
the camper and sign them in. Camp closes at 6:00PM.
Campers must be signed out by a parent or guardian by
6:00PM. Please note, a $1 per minute per child late
fee will be charged for each minute(s) after 6:00PM in
which the child is not picked up.
Due to the high level of physical activity involved in camp
every day, it is required that campers wear comfortable
athletic shoes - NO FLIP-FLOPS, SANDALS, OR CROCS
PLEASE. Socks are a daily requirement because of roller
skating. We will provide roller skates for campers or they
may bring their skates from home. All campers will have an
opportunity to swim two days a week. They will need their
own swimwear, towel and if necessary, sunscreen.
DROPPING OFF
Parents or guardians dropping off their camper must sign
their camper in each and every time they come to camp.
For the safety of your camper, there can be no exceptions
to this rule. For the safety of all campers and staff, we ask
all parents to remain in the “Pick Up and Drop Off area”
located directly in front of the camp desk when dropping
off your camper. Once you sign them in, get a hug and
a kiss good bye and know that your child is ready to
start their day, and you can start yours. If you have any
questions or concerns, just ask a member of our desk staff
to call for a camp director or your child’s lead counselor
and we would be happy to answer your questions or
concerns.
PICKING UP
Anyone picking up a child must be on file as authorized
by the camper’s parent to pick up the camper. Anyone
picking up a camper must present a valid photo ID each
and every time they sign out their camper for the night.
Again for the safety of our campers and staff (and to
avoid any confusion at pick up time) we ask all parents to
remain in the “Pick Up and Drop Off area” located directly
in front of the camp desk when picking up your camper.
If you have any questions or concerns, just ask a member
of our desk staff to call for a camp director or your child’s
lead counselor and we would be happy to answer your
questions or concerns.
CAMPERS ATTENDING SPECIALTY CAMPS &
AFTERNOON CLASSES
If your child is attending both the summer day camp and
is also attending a specialty camp hosted by either Arts &
Humanities, Rec. Sports, Outdoor Rec/Climbing, Fitness,
Tennis, Aquatics, or Gymnastics, know that we do our best to
make sure that we get your camper to and from their class on
time. However, we need your help to make sure that happens.
When you sign in your camper at the camp desk, please ask
one of our camp desk staff members to check our list of
current specialty campers for the week. They will confirm that
your camper is on the list to go to their specialty camp. If
your camper is signed up for a class in the afternoon about
the same time as you plan to pick up, please make sure that
you remember to sign your camper out at the camp desk
before going to watch their class.
MEDICATION
If medication is necessary during camp hours, the medication,
along with a doctor’s note, must be given to the camp
nurse by the parent. No camper shall be allowed to keep
prescription or over-the-counter medications with them.
SNACKS, LUNCH & MENU
Campers will have a morning snack break, a lunch period,
and an afternoon snack break. Snacks are included in the
cost of your weekly fees, so there is even less to worry
about. Each camper can choose from two options listed
for each snack period. Campers can still choose to bring a
snack from home. Lunches are available for purchase when
you sign your camper in at the camp desk. To put your
child on the lunch count for the day, just put an “x” in the
box labeled “lunch” next to your camper’s name on the sign
in sheet. Each lunch is $3.00 or you may purchase a lunch
card worth 5 lunches for $15.00. A menu indicating the
weekly snacks and daily lunch are available at the camp
desk and the main service desks at both YMCA locations.
Campers can still bring their lunch from home if they
choose. Please note however that due to health regulations
and space restrictions, refrigeration and microwave access
are not available to the campers. A cold drink will be
available to all campers at no cost during lunch time.
SODA & VENDING MACHINES
The vending machines at the YMCA have items for sale for
non-camp customers. These machines cause difficulties
during camp with campers buying items throughout the day
and losing or spilling the items. Campers in K-5TH grade will
be restricted from buying items from the vending machines.
Teens will only have access to the vending machines at
specified times during the day.

The YMCA of Edwardsville is very proud to offer the teen
summer program again this year. This program is designed for
those that have completed 6TH, 7TH, and 8TH grades and allows
teens to take responsibility for themselves and to become
confident, trustworthy members of our adult community.
he teens begin each day in their private recreational
T
area with its own lounge, foosball table, air hockey table,
pool table and a large-screen TV. From there they will plan
their day with their friends by choosing from a variety
of activities such as skating, rock climbing, gymnastics,
swimming, fitness center time and sports, just to name a
few. They will also have opportunities to travel out into
the community to perform service projects at many worthy
institutions, not to mention other fun projects like the
cardboard boat regatta!
The Teen Adventure Camp program typically takes field
trips every Thursday to places such as The Edge, Six Flags,
Raging Rivers, Splash City and Edison’s.
Don’t be bored at home this summer. Come join our teens
for a busy and gratifying experience. Applications for
the Teen Adventure Camp 2017 program are available at
the Service Desk of both the Esic and Meyer Centers or
online at www.edwardsvilleymca.com. (The fee structure,
payment policy and registration procedures are the same
as the standard YMCA Camp on page 6.)
Snacks are included with Teen Adventure
Camp as well! Teens do have the choice
of an “Upsized” lunch. For a dollar more
(payable in cash at the Teen Camp Sign
In Desk the day your Teen wants to
upsize their lunch), your Teen Adventure
Camper will get an adult sized portion of
lunch - two servings of the entree, two
sides and a drink.

paintings. We will work on the basics of drawing for the
first half of class and painting the second half. We
will explore several different painting and drawing
mediums and make a mixed media piece
combining the materials.
The Edwardsville Art Center inspires
the lives of youth and the creative spirit
of adults through classes, exhibits, and
cultural events. Courses are offered at the
Edwardsville High School in well equipped
classrooms (D120 & D160). Classes are
taught by professionally educated working
artists from the Edwardsville area.
