HURRICANE MATTHEW UPDATE Dear Families of CPS, A company assigned by our insurance carrier conducted indoor air quality assessments on October 26th of our gym, library, classrooms and office area. Our Parish Manager is requesting continuous testing throughout the time period of remediation and rebuilding of our classrooms, gym and library. Beginning the evening of October 27th and throughout the weekend, the drywall will be removed from the Conference Room and Spanish Room while the floors in the Art and Music Room are being removed. All of this work is being done after school hours. The remediation time period will last three to five days. Our General Contractor will come in for the rebuild of the classrooms and anticipates the work will take two to three days. Following the completion of these four classrooms, they will begin the drywall removal of our four other middle school classrooms. The time frame for completion of all work is expected to be the same. All floor removal and replacement of the last four classrooms will take place during Christmas Break. On Wednesday of this week, the classroom teachers met to discuss the location of their classrooms while the work is being completed. We will be using the Sister Mary Victor room (next door to the 2nd Grade Classroom), the Bracken Room (Parish Hall), The Study Hall (second floor of the Lyceum), the After Care Room (Lyceum), and the old Music room in the Lyceum. Spanish classes may be held within the homerooms until the Spanish room is completed. The teachers will be moving the necessary belonings needed for a periof of 7 to 10 days. All other classroom materials will be stored in pods that have been brought in by the Remediation Company. We have received quotes for the gym floor and the built-in cabinetry in all of our classrooms. We are awaiting quotes for the sub-flooring of the gym, rebuild of classroom quotes and classroom content quotes (furniture, electronics, etc.). Once we are given the green light by our insurance carrier, we will begin replacing drywall, building cabinetry and painting as well as placing the order for the replacement of furniture, etc. There has been some concern expressed regarding several students out of school for flu related symptoms (fever, vomiting, diarrhea). Please know this flu started with one of our families prior to Hurricane Matthew. They feel confident that it is not related to the classroom environment, however, they will let me know immediately if the doctor has any concern about this matter. This is why we have asked to have another indoor air quality assessment done. Rest assured, if a suggestion is made to move the children to another classroom area, it will be done immediately. I want to thank our CPS Family for your prayers and support throughout this process. As I have said before, we will get through this together. Our culture has hijacked the definition of beauty and twisted it into something purely external, but that doesn’t change its true definition. The girls were reminded that they are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” (Psalm 139:14) and that God doesn’t make mistakes. “For the Lord does not see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (I Samuel 16:7 Blessings, Lisa Brenninkmeyer
