To protect lake health To protect ground water sources To protect our drinking water The Township inspector’s role: Notify you as the homeowner by letter that an inspection will be conducted within the year To conduct a visual inspection of your property once every 5 years Create an as-built sketch of the septic location Provide a summary report for your septic file that is kept in the municipal office Communicate with you to answer questions you may have Invoice the fee of $99.00, which is payable at Township office If the inspectors are unable to conduct a visual inspection due to lack of records then a phase II inspection is required. A phase II inspection is a more intensive follow up to locate the bed and tank. This will require the services of a licensed installer or qualified party to perform the assessment at your expense. What if I have a steel tank? If a steel tank is found on site by the pumper, the condition will be assessed and you may be required to obtain a permit to replace it. The 100m boundary touches my property, but my septic system is outside the 100m, do I still need an inspection? Yes, the legislation states any property within 100m I have a treatment unit (tertiary system) with a maintenance agreement and therefore yearly testing and inspection. Do I still need an inspection? Yes, the legislation requires that the inspection be conducted by a P. Eng, Architect, qualified inspector or installer in addition to your reqular maintenance. What if there is a problem? If a problem is found with the system you will need to remedy the deficiencies by obtaining the necessary permits and approvals. This may mean you will need to contact a qualified installer to replace the tank, repair or replace the bed. Is there funding money to assist if there is a problem?
