Principal News:
Welcome back
We hope you had a wonderful spring break. We are moving into our testing season and focusing on
finishing the school year strong. This is also the time of year that students tend to struggle the most with
school. For seniors, they are excited to graduate from high school and move onto the next phase of their
lives. The rest of the students are ready to get an extended break from the challenges of high school in
general. This is our challenge to keep the students motivated and engaged in learning.
Spring Testing Takes Place in April and May
As you are most likely aware, our students take many important standardized assessments in April and
May. Purpose of the testing is to monitor student growth, identification of students for extra supports,
personalize learning, identify areas of instruction that could be improved, etc. The purpose of this
communication is to give you an overview of our testing calendar. This is a big picture view, more details
will be provided closer to the test dates.

A bus trip for students and parents to area colleges in combination with Minnesota Private College Week.
A list of colleges, details and registration information will be ready for the May Newsletter. Some of the
Colleges we are considering visiting this summer are: University of St. Thomas, St. Catherine University,
University of Minnesota Twin Cities, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, University of Wisconsin Stout, and
Southwest Minnesota State University.
ACT/SAT
Act and SAT tests are offered throughout the year. Students can log on to ACT’s web site,
www.actstudent.org to register for their ACT test. To register online for the SAT test students should go
to www.collegeboard.com. Students must upload a photo when registering for the ACT or SAT. Students
are required to bring their admission ticket and photo id on the test day. No ticket, no photo id, no
admission! As a general rule, we recommend that juniors start taking their ACT’s in the 2nd half of their
junior year. However, some students are ready before that time and are certainly welcome to test earlier.
One guideline is to wait until the student has either completed or has taken at least one semester of
algebra 2. Student may take the tests as often as they choose. Official ACT and SAT scores can also be
requested to be sent to a student’s college(s) of choice through both of these websites.
