eating.
• Givenhealthyservings,mostchildrencansensewhen
theyarefullandwillstopeatingifyouletthem.The
amountoffoodapreschoolereatsmaychangefrom
daytoday,butahealthychildwillgenerallyconsume
justtherightamountoffoodtonourishherbody.
• Whenofferinganewfood,feedafamiliarfoodwith
thenewone,alternatingbitesbetweeneach.
• Somechildrenarelesslikelythanotherstotrynew
things.Itmaytakeher5–20timesoftryinganew
foodbeforeshewilllikeit.Don’tgiveup!
• Encourageyourchildtotrynewfoods—atleastone

morethanhefeelscomfortableeating.
• Modeltryingnewfoods.Tryanewfruitorvegetable
andtalkabouthowitlooks,smellsandtastes.
• Avoidrewardinggoodbehaviororacleanplatewith
foodsofanykind.Especiallyavoidforcingyourchild
tofinishthe“healthyfoods”togetdessertorsweets—
thiscanmakethehealthyfoodseemlikepunishment
andforcehertoeatwhensheisfull.
• Offerdessertsrarelysohedoesnotexpectoneat
everymeal.
