BEHIND THE K4H SINGLE
Karting for Heroes (K4H) is an annual team event organised by Hydraquip at Buckmore Park Kart Circuit, Kent in
support of Help for Heroes and has been running since 2010. Event organiser Geoff Kelley has for a long time wanted
to add something extra to what the event raises for the charity and top of his wish list was to release a song for Help
for Heroes. Being musically challenged he needed some outside assistance which came along this year in the guise of
long time Karting for Heroes supporter Martin Morris, who is a Kent based singer song writer and long-time supporter
of Karting for Heroes.
When Geoff sat down with Martin he explained his idea and how he wanted the song to sound and feel, which for
someone who is musical inept, this was quite a challenge. Fortunately for the two of them technicalities were
overcome and Martin had a full understanding on what Geoff wanted to achieve. Having met some of the guys that
Help for Heroes supports at previous K4H events Martin knew immediately that within his back catalogue there was a
song that he co-wrote with Gary Roberts called “What I’m Here For” which he thought would be perfectly suited for
what they both wanted to achieve. Following on from a few more discussions between the two of them Martin was
clear on how the finished song would sound and started to book some studio time. With a few changes to the original
lyrics and format and a few visits to the studio, accompanied by much self-criticism the final cut was made and the
finished version is now available to download on 6th May 2017 with 100% of the proceeds going to Help for Heroes.
Geoff added “I had an idea of what I wanted, but in all honesty I doubted if it would ever come to fruition. But thanks
to Martin donating his time and the song that goal has been achieved and I hope will not only appeal to those who
are involved with the charity but to people outside of it. Working with Martin has been great as he had the same
vision as myself and has donated all of his time in getting the single together. Martin said” At first when Geoff came
to me with the Idea I was thrilled that he had thought of me as he's had the idea of releasing a song for help for
heroes for ages. The money raised is going to such an important charity in my eyes so I'm really glad I get to do my
part in raising funds for it by doing something I love.”
