APPLICATION FOR SJRPA BABYSITTING COURSE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
In conjunction with the South Winnipeg Family Information Centre, the SJRPA is offering a babysitting course to
Middle School Students.
The course covers the following responsibilities of a babysitter: getting along with children, child care and
development for infants and school-aged children, accident prevention and illness, and dealing with problems and
emergencies, etc. While this course is designed primarily for students interested in babysitting, it is also a valuable
opportunity to teach students self-confidence and self-reliance when staying home alone.
COURSE DETAILS
Date:
Monday, April 17, 2017 (No Classes - PD Day)
Time:
9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. To receive their wallet-size babysitters’ certificates, students must remain for
the full duration of the class and be present for a test at the end of the course.
Place:
St. John's-Ravenscourt School, 400 South Drive. Students should sign in at the Security Desk on
arrival.
Fee:
$40 per student (includes a manual), to be charged to your SJR family account.
Bring:
Nut-free bag lunch with a drink, highlighter and pencil. A mid-morning snack and drink will be
provided.
Prerequisites: All participating students must be at least 11 ½ years old. Please note that children are not legally
allowed to babysit (even for siblings) until they are 12 years old.
The course is limited to a maximum of 20 participants. A minimum of 12 students is required to hold the course.
Applications will be accepted on a ‘first come first served’ basis and a wait list will be created if more than 20
students apply. The SJRPA will email the parents of all applicants ASAP after the deadline to let them know if their
child has a place on the course or is on the wait list.
The deadline for applications is Friday, March 17, 2017. Please return your completed form to the Middle
School Office (permission form mailbox) by this date.
