Year 7 Spellings January-February (BSPJs) There are 10 words to learn each week: 5 of the words concern a particular spelling rule or strategy. The other 5 words will concern vocabulary building and are found in your class novel. You will be expected to find the dictionary definition of the vocabulary words and then use them in a sentence. At the end of every spelling test you must write your score and any words you struggled with on to your spelling sheets at the back of your exercise book. We will use these at the end of each term. 1 Rule: Vocabulary spellings: Add es to words ending in ch sh s ss x z muster chaos dismissive presume desolate 1. beaches 2. waltzes 3. crosses 4. quizzes 5. choruses 2 Letter before ‘y’ is a consonant… 1. libraries 2. berries 3. replies 4. belies 5. implies 3 Words end in ay… 1. pulleys 2. alleys 3. monkeys 4. valleys 5. trolleys Content Exasperation Indicate Plaque Conviction Customary Splendour Clamber Insolent Discard Definition of key words Used in a sentence 4 When words end in f or fe… 1. knives 2. thieves 3. elves 4. halves 5. shelves 5 When words in o and come after consonant Deliberate Obliged Incredulous Escapade diversion Forlorn Despair Summon Resolution Astonished 1. dingoes 2. heroes 3. potatoes 4. torpedoes 5. echoes 6 Irregular plurals 1. criteria 2. criterion 3. nucleus 4. nuclei 5. fungi Catastrophe Contradict Sneer Inconsolable Explicit
