Grading Policy:
The intention is to structure the class to resemble a college-level English 101 course. For this
reason, students will be assessed on tests/ benchmarks, projects, writing, participation, and class
work/homework. Active participation in class is vital to every student’s success. The following is
the grade distribution that is used to arrive at students’ semester grade:
● Benchmarks/Tests/Quizzes/- 40%
● Class work /Homework/Projects/ Writing- 40%
● Participation/ Do Nows/ Exit Questions- 20%
Academic Dishonesty:
This includes both written and oral presentations. Examples of academic dishonesty include but are not limited to:
● Submitting another person’s work as your own including:
○ Copying and pasting information from the Internet
○ Copying another student's work
○ Not properly documenting and citing sources
● Giving or receiving information during tests/quizzes or class assignments
● Using unauthorized materials during a test/quiz
*All instances of cheating and plagiarism will receive a failing grade and referral to grade level administrator.
Policies and Procedures
Attendance
● Students arriving late to class must have a valid pass from a teacher or administrator. The
following is the procedure that deals with unexcused lateness:
● Up to two times late- Warning
● 3 times late- Teacher detention (2:00 pm-2:30 pm)
● Four or more times late- Parent notification/Discipline referrals
Make-Up Work Policy:
● Students are responsible for any work missed during an excused absence.
● IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK OUR GOOGLE CLASSROOM ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR ANY
ASSIGNMENTS AND/OR NOTIFICATIONS.
● You must also see me for make-up work immediately upon return to school or you may receive
a zero for the assignment.
● Assignments not submitted due to absences will receive a zero unless otherwise excused by the
teacher.
Extra Credit Policy:
● Extra credit, if offered, is related to the coursework.
● All requirements of the assignment must be strictly followed in order to receive credit.

Assignments
● When class work is given, it is due at the end of the period. You must have permission to turn class
work in late.
● It is expected that students will work on long term assignments at home when necessary.
● If computer or Internet access is not available at home, students should make arrangements ahead
of time to use the library.
Materials
● Students should have a notebook, pencils, and blue and/or black ink pens.
● Reading materials should be brought to class daily.
Passes
● Passes will be given to the lavatory and nurse only. Also, no passes will be given the first and last
five minutes of the period or after 1:30 pm.
● Students ​will not be issued passes to visit their lockers during class.
● Any student causing a disruption during class or who abuses the pass may have pass privileges
suspended indefinitely.
Detentions
● Teacher detentions are assigned with at least 24 hours notice. Failure to report to a teacher
detention will result in an office referral.
● Teacher detentions will not be re-scheduled.
