Week 8 - Malfroy School

Message from our Principal, Nicky Brell

Ni and Warm Pasifika Greetings!
Road safety at the school gate has become an important topic for our community, particularly when
parents and caregivers are trying to find a parking space in the afternoon. You may have been aware last
week we had the parking wardens from the Rotorua Lakes Council visit Malfroy School in the afternoon.
They gave out flyers to parents/caregivers who had parked illegally or were waiting to pick up their
children in the drive-through area.
While the responses were overall positive there were some individual responses that can be best
described as unnecessary. After two visits to our school, advice from council staff
indicated that the drive-through area at the front of the school is creating a hazard for our
students. We can change this by asking parents/caregivers to choose neighbouring
streets to park and walk into school. The alternative would be to close all access to the
front drive-through area.
Over the coming weeks we will monitor this area to see if there is a change. Thank you!
Property update: We were pleased that staff and students were able to return to Block A last week in
fine weather. Most of the furniture was moved by Crown Commercial and staff. Three adjoining learning
spaces and an office were refurbished. The major change was the low flat roof (that faces Rooms 13-16)
was replaced and repitched, exterior cladding for most of the building was replaced, and an electronic
window system was installed in each of the classrooms.

Staff Profile: Felicia Lamont
My name is Felicia, known as Whaea Phily. My two girls came to Malfroy
School. What I really like was the old fashion values at Malfroy School. Being a
support staff member I also see modern values put into place. I love my job and
love the people here.
I was born in Porirua (Wellington) and lived all over New Zealand. I grew up
with my step dad who was Ngati Maniapoto, King Country, Te Kuiti. One
daughter and my husband were born here in Rotorua.
I enjoy reading, camping, tramping, entertaining and family. My goals are to do
the Tongariro Crossing, another skydive jump, never stop learning and to enjoy
life.
The Blue Lake
The Blue Lake
On Thursday Room 3 went to the Blue Lake. We used
the bus to get to the Blue Lake. It was a sunny day.
My group was with Jacob’s Dad. There was me, Jacob
and Kacey too.
At the Blue Lake we played on the playground. We also
built sandcastles. I tried to make a cake out of sand.
We also went bug catching too and after lunch we went
swimming. When we went swimming I played with my
Mum.
What I liked best at the Blue Lake was the tyre swing
because the tyre swing went up and down.
