The 2015-2016 School Year
Currently, Wood Acres anticipates between 550600 students, for the next school year. Thank
you to everyone who sent their information forms
to school to help us plan. The school system
allocates staff to schools with a student teacher
ratio of: K@ 26:1, Gr. 1-3 @28:1, Gr. 4-5 @30:1.
This formula nets us with 25 classroom teachers
next year. Based on current enrollment and the
information from the returned sheets, the
distribution will be as follows:
Kindergarten
First Grade
Second Grade
Third Grade
Fourth Grade
Fifth Grade

As we continue to monitor enrollment throughout
the summer, please encourage new neighbors to
register their children sooner rather than later.
This will help us advocate for appropriate staffing
before the start of the school year.
Yearbook Purchases
There will be a link on the web page to purchase yearbooks this week. Parents may order online using
ONLINE SCHOOL PAYMENTS $24.00 or pay by check or cash $26.00. I connect-ed will be sent out
when the link is active and the check/cash order form is posted. We anticipate delivery of yearbooks to be
next week. Once ordered, yearbooks will be labeled with student name and sent home. We will have 500
copies for purchase.
Summer Math and Writing Program
It isn’t too late. If you are looking for something this summer, we would love to have students come for
camp July 7-24. Go to the school homepage and download an application.
Lunch Account Balances
If your child uses the SNAP system to purchase lunch or milk, please monitor the balance to ensure that
they have enough money in the account to get them through the end of the school year. If there is a
positive remaining balance in the account, it will carry over to the next school year at any MCPS school.
Deficits do not carry over. They MUST be rectified by the last day of school. Our goal this year is to not be
overdrawn with any student account! Money left in the account will transfer to the next school year.
Thank You Wood Acres PTA Board
Wood Acres has an amazing PTA and board of directors. There are many volunteers who dedicate a great
deal of their time to us, helping our building to run smoothly and organizing events for families, staff and
the community. Volunteering in the school provides opportunities to support instruction and also models for
children that donating your time is a worthy and important contribution. We look forward to working with
next school year’s PTA board as we continue the important work of teaching and learning at Wood Acres
Elementary. We would like to give a special thank you to board members that are leaving their positions or
leaving the school. Your leadership, activism and dedication to our school and the children we serve make
Wood Acres a special place.
Everyone have a relaxing and fun summer. Remember to check the school website after August 10th for
updates on the new school year.
