Word Study: We will be working on Unit 2 Part 1 this week. For this unit we go to 16 words
each week. We will add long i sounds this week with “igh” words. Monday we will read pages
28-29 and complete page 30. Tuesday will be page 31, Wednesday page 32 and 33, and Thursday we will use spelling city to practice our words.
Reading: This week we will read a story about Roberto Clemente. We will work with the strategies of visualization, cause and effect, and summarizing. Monday we will preview the story and
read it as a class. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday students will read the story again with a
partner, individually, and a small group depending on the day. They will have various activities
to complete depending on their reading group and the day.
Writing: This week we will create a piece of art to illustrate our summary of the biography
about Roberto Clemente. Students should be able to identify important events in the life of
Roberto Clemente in order to write a summary of the story. Students should be writing in complete sentences with correct punctuation and capitalization. Watch the planner for the due
date.
Cursive: Tuesday we will complete pages 30-33 and Thursday will be pages 34 and 35. We will
learn the undercurve, the downcurve, the overcurve and the slant strokes this week.
We will continue working in chapter 2 this week. Monday we will have an introduction to the laptops and MobyMax. Students will complete their placement test. Tuesday we will work with double digit addition in lesson 2-4. Wednesday will be lesson 25 and adding money. Thursday we will work with three-digit addition in lesson 2-7.
We will begin a worksheet in class. If the worksheet is not finished in class, it will be
their homework. Friday will be greater numbers. Homework will be to finish the inclass assignment.
We will begin looking at the Iroquois clothing this week. Students will learn what the
Iroquois clothing looked like and what materials were used during three different
time periods: pre-European influence, post-European influence, and modern dress as
they work online with a partner. They will create two flags for their flag book—one
for male clothing and one for female clothing.
