Job Description: Certified Nurses’ Aide (CNA) Position: Certified Nurses’ Aide (C.N.A.) Direct Supervisor: Charge Nurse Lead Supervisor: Director of Nursing Location: Nursing FLSA: Non-Exempt Purpose of Position: Perform various resident care activities and related non-skilled services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of residents in the health center including the Memory Care Unit and Rehab Unit. Key Responsibilities and accountabilities: • Encourage residents in activities of daily living. • Encourage and motivate residents to participate in health & wellness programs, occupational and physical therapy to promote physical, social, mental, spiritual, and intellectual wellness. • Foster resident’s self- respect and self-esteem by recognizing, accepting those entrusted to his/her care. • Assist with daily care of residents by performing such as bathing, dressing in appropriate seasonal attire, grooming, shaving, combing hair, putting on shoes and other care needs to ensure dignity of each person. • Assist residents with personal hygiene as directed • Observe the physical and mental conditions of residents and report all perceptions to the Charge Nurse. • At the beginning of each shift, receive resident assignments for the day, plus any special instructions from the Charge Nurse. • Prepare residents for meals. Assist residents, who are able, to the dining room and provide tray service for those who are unable to go to the dining room. Feed residents when necessary and assists residents who need help. Return residents to their rooms after meal, collect trays and return them to dietary cart. • Feed residents when necessary and assist residents who need help. • Assist recording meal intake percentages as needed. • Obtain resident completed menus for next meal. • Return residents to their rooms after meal, collect trays and return them to dietary cart. • Clean off bedside tables. Ensure bedside tables are especially cleaned prior to and after meals if resident eats in the room. • Make beds and tidy residents’ room. Remove soiled items from room. • Take vital signs of residents as directed • Pass ice and fresh water every shift and as needed following safety procedures. • Carry out rehabilitation measures as directed. • Transfer residents from bed to chair, etc. as directed. • Make resident rounds with previous shift and at least every two hours • Answer call lights promptly. Carry out assignments as directed by Charge Nurse; record and report pertinent information. • Clean and stock clean utility and soiled utility rooms. • Clean equipment as scheduled for example wheelchairs, walkers, etc. • Be patient, friendly and sincere. Be courteous, tactful and use good judgment in working with residents, family members, guests and other staff members. • Perform other duties as assigned. • Commitment to the Mission and Values of Chateau Girardeau Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities • High school education or equivalent is preferred. • Must have Nurse Aide certification. • Must complete Chateau orientation • Must complete CAN orientation • Must attend mandatory meetings and in-services Physical Demands and Aptitudes • Must be in good physical and mental health • Have ability to perform high levels of physical activity for extended periods of time • Must be able to lift minimum of 60 pounds • Be able to determine hazards and use judgment. • Have the ability to read and carry out written orders. • Visual acuity is necessary Uniform Requirements • Any choice of scrubs top and pants; no capris • Closed toe shoes, socks • Name badge • Gait belt • Clothes need to be clean and fit appropriately • No jackets, hoodies or over-shirt • May wear shirt under scrub top • May wear a lab jacket Key Relationships: • Other members of the nursing department • Human Resources staff • Dining Services staff • Social Services staff • Health & Wellness instructors • Rehab staff • Housekeeping staff Hours of Work: Hours worked will be consistent with corporate personnel policies. Employees may be full time, part time or per diem. Scheduling variances will be as the staff scheduler may require. Normal day shift is 7:00 am till 3:00 pm. Normal evening shift is 3:00 pm till 11:30 pm. Normal night shift is 11:00 till 7:30 pm.
