Questions with Be
Schedules
Activity type: Share Information
Level: High-Beginning
Purpose: Students practice asking and
answering yes / no and information
questions with be to talk about a
student’s schedule. Partners must work
together to fill in missing information in
this gap-fill activity.
Set-up: Pairs
Time: 5 minutes to prepare / 15 minutes
to do the activity
Materials Preparation:
1. Make one copy of the Student’s Page
for each pair of students.
2. Cut each Student’s Page in half, or
provide scissors so students can cut.
3. Be sure each student has a pen or
pencil.
Procedure
1. As a warm-up, quickly review yes / no
questions and information questions
with be if necessary. Write Yes / No on
one side of the board and Information
on the other. Ask questions such as
What time is class over? and Is
everyone enjoying class today? Ask
students to categorize the questions.
Write them under the correct words on
the board.
2. Divide the students into pairs.
Designate, or have them decide, who is
Student A and who is Student B. Let
them know that both partners will
receive a planner with missing
information.
3. Pass out the appropriate planners to
each student, or give one Student’s
Page to each pair and ask them to cut

the page in half. Advise the partners not
to show each other their planners.
4. Tell students that Student A begins by
asking Student B questions about
Rosa’s schedule. Student A should fill in
all the spaces on his or her planner.
Next, Student B will ask questions and
fill in the spaces on his or her planner.
Some example questions are listed
below.
5. Ask students to begin. When both
partners have finished, they may look at
each other’s schedules and compare
answers.
Example questions:
Student A:
Where is Rosa’s writing class?
Who is Rosa eating lunch with?
When / What time is her guitar lesson?
Is her history paper due on Thursday? /
When is her history paper due?
How old is Aunt Lu today? / Is Aunt Lu
30 years old today?
Student B:
Is Rosa’s next class biology? / What
class is at 10:30?
Where is band practice?
What is the meeting with Mr. Clark
about?
When is Aunt Lu’s party? / Is Aunt Lu’s
party at 6:00?
Where is the book club meeting?/ Is the
book club meeting in the library?
Follow-up
Have students create their own
schedules for a typical day. Ask them to
share some of the information with a
partner or the whole class. Encourage
students to ask each other yes / no and
information questions with be to find out
more information about each student’s
schedule.

Schedules
Work in pairs. One student is Student A, the other is Student B. Cut the page in half.
Student A gets the top half. Student B gets the bottom half.
Student A:
1 Ask Student B questions about Rosa’s schedule. Write the answers in the spaces.
2 Look at Rosa’s planner. Answer Student B’s questions.
Example:
Student A: What is Rosa’s first class?
