Rob was born and raised in Vancouver, the son of a Vancouver
Symphony Orchestra musician, and the nephew of original New
York City rock n’ rollers. Music has been a part of Kirkham’s life
since his youth, and he plays a variety of instruments such as
guitar, bass guitar and drums/percussion. In 2004, he formed the
band The Vincent Black Shadow with whom he has released two
albums and two EP’s, shot five music videos, and traveled around
the world performing in twenty countries with international
artists such as Snow Patrol, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bjork,
and Marianna’s Trench. Since 2009, Kirkham has been a full time
elementary school teacher (Grade 7) at Our Lady of Perpetual
Help Elementary school. Here he created, and currently leads,
the RockBand program in which students ages 10-12 perform
a myriad of classic and modern pop rock songs on a variety of
instruments. The summer of 2012 saw Kirkham successfully take
his RockBand club to the Summer Camp format. He is looking
forward to a rockin’ summer at the Vancouver Academy of Music!
