PAT: BATTLES of WWII There were numerous battles in World War II. Some of these battles lasted only days while others took months or years. Some of the battles were notable for the material losses such as tanks or aircraft carriers while others were notable for the number of human losses. Although this is not a comprehensive list of all battles of WWII, it is a list of the major battles of World War II. You and your partners will be assigned one of the significant battles of WWII. It may be from the European Theater or from the Pacific Theater. Your assignment is to research the battle you are given, become the “expert” on it, and then teach the rest of the class about this battle using a presentation you will create using Google, Prezi, or Power Point. This should be an informative presentation for the class that gives them an in depth account of the event. Your presentation must include all of the following information in some way: 1. Key Facts a. name and date(s) of battle b. who was fighting (countries) and who were the commanders (field commanders) c. location d. goals and objectives of countries involved (Why did they fight this battle?) e. What was the overall allied strategy during the battle? 2. Description of the Battle a. Events leading up to the battle b. Description of how it played out (include any crucial points in the battle, use of weapons, any unusual circumstances or events, impact of geography or resources, etc.) c. Map(s) that illustrates the progress of the battle 3. Why was this battle important? a. The losses sustained by the countries involved b. The outcome (who won) and its impact on the war effort for the winning and losing side. c. ALSO Include - any other interesting facts you find. -lots of pictures/visual aids 4. Your final slide should be a summary of the importance of this battle: Ask yourself, “What key points of information should we all know about this battle?” You will be working in partners or trios. All members must work on the presentation, and must be part of the presentation. 5. In addition -Create a works cited page - Create two test questions from your information.
