POSITION PROFILE
Reporting to the Field Coordinator, the Project Assistant will support the implementation of REACH’s data collection in the
field for the UNICEF Project Analysis of migration trends and profiles of children migrating to Italy and Greece.
The Project Assistant will support the Italy Field Coordinator to organize and implement data collection in the field. This
includes providing logistical support, supporting in the preparation and follow-up of field visits, liaising with local
stakeholders.
TASKS
The Project Assistant shall be responsible for:
1. Data collection & Admin support: Italy – 80%
 Under the supervision of the Italy Field Coordinator, liaise with local stakeholders for access to information
and facilitation of access to sites
 Under the supervision of the Italy Field Coordinator, support preparations of daily data collection, incl:
o Daily morning briefs and debriefs of enumerators
o Updating of ODK tools/ questionnaires
o Preparing other supplies for data collection (stationary, print-outs, etc)
o Potentially support Field Co in daily data cleaning
o When FC in Thessaloniki & under supervision of AO, act as focal point for Athens-based
enumerators
 Under the supervision of the Italy Field Coordinator, support field level data collection, incl.:
o Accompanying enumerators to the field, offering guidance on data collection approach
o Taking notes during focus group discussions in collaboration with enumerators
o Potentially conduct key informant interviews with camp managers, and other site representatives
2. Primary Data management: Italy – 20%
 Support FC in ensuring data reliability by supporting data cleaning and triangulation
o Under supervision of Field Coordinator, cleaning of daily data collected by enumerator team to
track mistakes and misunderstandings in data collection, follow up and clarify with enumerator
team
o Confirm through GPS coordinates recorded, and time taken per interview, enumerators went to
correct location and employed an adequate amount of time per interview
 For data collected on mobile phones: upload on REACH Italy server, clean data on excel
 For data collected during focus group discussions: ensure information entered digitally
(either during data collection or by enumerators after coming back from the field to transfer
paper notes to digital notes on laptops)
 Keep a cleaning logbook of changes made to dataset as per post-data-collection
clarifications by enumerators
 Share daily cleaned dataset and data cleaning logbook with Assessment Officer and
Research Assistant for analysis

REQUIREMENTS
Required:
 Fluency in both oral and written English and Italian, with experience in report writing at a graduate or professional
level
 Excellent communication skills in Italian and English
 Strong drafting skills for effective reporting in Italian and English
 Strong organization and multitasking skills
 Ability to operate in a cross - cultural environment requiring flexibility
 Advance Microsoft Word and Excel skills
 Experience in NGO work, ideally in the migrant/refugee sector in Italy
 Some experience in research (incl. secondary data analysis, field-level research)
 Valid work permit
Desirable:
 1-2 years’ experience in assessments, M&E, field research, evaluations an asset
 Demonstrated quantitative and/or qualitative analytical skills
 Excellent academic qualifications, including a Master degree in relevant discipline (International Relations,
Political Sciences, Social Research, Economics, Anthropology, or similar)
 Familiarity with Italy’s migrant situation
 Previous work experience in migration
 Academic background in Migration studies
